 the doors
I used to be a big Doors fan. I read the biography Nobody Here Gets Out Alive when I was but a young lad. I was fascinated with the weirdness they consisted of. I learned several of their songs like "Roadhouse Blues", "Love Me Two Times", "The End", "LA Woman", etc. Robby Kreiger fit the band to a tee. Unfortunatley, once Jim was gone, he encountered difficulties fitting in with other prospective bands, and therefore never regained success post-Doors.
My main influence was Jimmy Page and I aspired to learn every thing he ever did. I can truthfully claim that I mastered a good 80-90% of the Led Zeppelin library. I especiallly enjoy the acoustic pieces. Listen to Bron-Y-Aur off of Physical Graffiti. The man was a genius as far as innovating sound in the studio and was not afraid to experiment with different tunings.
Other favorites I've enjoyed playing over the years include the Eagles, the BEatles, Metallica, and believe it or not, a bit of classical. OH, let me not forget Rush. Just plain fun stuff to play.
