 What styles are everyone into?
It seems to me that there's a lot of shredders in here... What kind of stuff is everyone into - both playing and listening?
For playing, I'm with a classic rock band at the moment (and probably will be for a VERY long time). My mate Andy handles all the shred, fast stuff and I prefer the slower melodic stuff.
In terms of listening, I'm right into Prog Rock - my main passion in life - but also listen to everything from trance to metal. I even wrote a track to prove there was a place for guitar in trance!!

I prefer anything melodic
The extent of my liking for shred is eric johnson who keeps a musicality about his speed. So at the moment im on steely dan, acoustic led zepp, freddie king and buddy guy

Various types of rock including Heavy Metal, Classic Rock, Punk, Contemporary, Modern Metal, and blues rock. I like some shredding like Eric Johnson of Jeff Beck, but too much of shredding is overkill to me.

 What I'm Into
I play punk, country, rockabilly, blues and a little metal. I listen to a lot of early stuff, jazz, blues, classical. Not much on hip hop.

Metal/shred just isn't my style. I like more poppy upbeat stuff. A lot of power chords with leads and solos thrown in. Something you can move and jump around onstage to. Rock/alternative/pop/punk with a little bit of hard rock thrown in there just for fun. And don't forget your occassional rock ballad.

kind of a blues/death-thrash hybrid kind of thingy. There's lots I want to do though. Techno/thrash...but REAL techno...not just a few samples. Almost like the guitar was an afterthought but plays a prominent role. A good straight up rock band would be fun too.

I listen to mostly every kind of good music(I hate disco, techno and simmilar stuff). I like to play blues, rock, punk, metal etc. but my favourite style is epic heavy and power metal .
Shredders?? Yes, why not, but they must be melodic and they mustn't have 10 minutes songs playied only with semiquavers...

i play in jazz band at school and have a lot of fun with that.... i admire fingerstyle flamenco players like al di meola and paco de lucia, but i cant imagine playing like that... i play mostly a bluesy jazzy rock type of shit... metal when i want to shred and sound good with minimal theoretical effort.

While I'm capable of shredding, I enjoy all sorts of music with blues, jazz, metal and rock hovering in the top positions! When I pull out the ole acoustic guitar I'll even toss out a little folky stuff - LOVE acoustic finger-picking styles!!! Lotsa FUN!!!

I play hard and heavy melodic Metal. Sometimes it's hard and fast, sometimes a little slower.
I listen to a variety of music types but right now I'm pretty stuck on listening to Death Metal. if I find a drummer who double kicks like all the guys in all the bands I'm listening to, I'd end up playing Death metal. A drummer who double kicks those bass drums like he's possessed just lights fire to the entire band and makes everyone go nuts with the speed and heaviness that comes out of death metal these days. I think the drummer pushes the entire band. I dig the beats and that double bass drum kick, so it's Death Metal I'm listening to.

im into a lot of different styles of music, i mostly revolve around listening to anarcho/crust punk and grind/death/thrash/core metal, but i also listen to some indie bands, experimantal, some rock n roll bands(like the strokes and others), some ska, and i also like listening to coffee shop guitar players, just acoustics and singing.
i normally play technical stuff that is either heavy/slow, or thrashy angry...usually ill play the cliche power chords with a punk influence and add taping and syncopating palm mutin with some (metalcore influenced) single note riffs....i love tapping too, i have some songs that are generally just tapping
