 The Guitar for me...
I'm a decent guitarist and I own a Epiphone SG, I'm into the whole fat sound vibe.
I was wondering if there was a decent guitar with a fat soumd that i could buy next instead of going all the way to expensive Gibsons...

The least expensive Gibson SG is the Faded Special @ $579, and, in my opinion, beats the most expensive Epiphone version & they can be about twice the price. But, I hear you on the whole "fat sound" thing, love it.
Maybe you could try an Epi Les Paul. They're very good. The Standards are about $400.
But don't forget the ESP LTDs. Inexpensive, and they come loaded with active EMGs or Seymour Duncans.
I've played lots, but for the buck, these would be where I would start.
Everyone else will tell you Ibanez. Ignore them! They're evil people!
LOL! (that's for you guitarfreakyman!)

Iommi Epiphone SG........can you EVER go wrong with Tony Iommi ?
or one of the awesome Ibanez guitars like the RGT42DX line of neck thru metal machines (really they are super for any style of music)
did i mention the Iommi SG ?

go ahead, spend the money, and get a gibson
you'll be glad you did.
i saw an SG standard, i think it was an '01, in a shop selling used for about $600.

good call....i would take a Gibson over an Epiphone any day.....but $600 Gibsons (nice $600 Gibsons) can be hard to come by.
i dont know if the 01 standard you saw would hang with the Epiphone Iommi for about the same price. the Iommi SG is a killer guitar. even if it is JUST an Epiphone.
for me anyway, a big problem with Gibson SG's are the ugly PICK GUARDS they are putting on most of the models.
the 1 sided pickguard looks cool...but the full face guard is hideous..to me anyway.
Epiphone isnt quite so fond of that ugly piece of plastic on their Sg's.
anywho...thats my 2 cents worth for today.
have a super weekend

sometimes you luck out and find real great guitars on the cheap.
i've seen used SG fadeds (which are a great guitar) going for between four and five hundred. that puts a Gibson within the reach of just about anybody.
Epiphones to me are a crap-shoot, some of them are good, but i've played some that were total garbage too.

dude, everybody says "Gibson! Gibson!" there's more to life than Gibson. just like there's more to amps than Marshalls and there's more to coffee than Starbucks. try the Reverend guitars. they're killer, and their Volcano model blows away a Flying V in looks. the guy who say the Epi LP Standard, good call, as well as the ESP Ltds.
or better yet, go to a shop and search through the used stuff... the best way to find what you want is to get out and explore, all the while ignoring the brand names. grab a random guitar, plug it in, and LET IT GO!

 Dido dude, forget brand names
exactly as above, go look at used guitars that you like (or new if you want), and if you find one that feels great but doesnt put out your tone, just go buy a damn gibson pickup and throw it in there, since your looking for a fat sound, grab the fucking heaviest guitar there, like 20 pounds or up lol
p.s. brand names arent shit, I have a damn Hondo that was uber garbage and I threw a seymour duncan in it, an yngwie nut and painted it pink and green and now its discusting, any guitar can be amazing

I agree, play it before you buy it. There's junk in every manufacturer. Spend at least an hour with the instrument of your choice, go through it with a fine toothed comb, plug it into different amps including yours, providing they have one at the store.

i completly agree with der gitarenspieler!!!!!
why always gibson or fender, or even esp, korean made guitars at prices of american guitars.
try something else, there are so many great guitars that aren't gibson or fender.
i would buy a jet or a pearlcaster, or a quicksilver

i agree with the guys who said Epi LP's. I have a black beauty and it sounds killer. Also, check out schecter guitars. Most come equipped with Seymour Duncan Humbuckers (i have the C1-Semi Hollow, and it has AMAZING tone) You can get good ones for as low as $400.
