Post Shielding a Room... hypothesis...
Ok, so I know that when you get hum from a guitar, especially with single coil pickups it is caused by the pickups picking up magnetic fields that are usually generated by running electricity from unshielded wiring.

So according to wikipedia you can shield an area from electromagnetic fields using conductive material. So what if you wallpapered your room with wallpaper that had a conductive back to it? Like some kind of foil (mylar maybe?)...

I bet that would quiet up the room a little bit. Any other ideas to this effect?

i think that is futile. most distubances which you are referencing are actualy inside the room. one of the most common problems is cause by the mic stand while you sing. the only way to solve it is to lower your pickups and turn up your amp. so essentially proofing the room isn.t the cure good cables, power strips, all the stuff thats inside the room are what you want to look at, if there is a radio make sure it is off, same with cell phones. they cause buzzing even while not operational as long as they are powered up they are causing electrical interferance. i cant strees good cables enough, also check all equipment for grounding switches. many modern amp have these, mine for instance is never on but every now and then we play a gig at a place with bad wiring and i will hit the switch to clean up noise.

when shielding an electronics cavity the only thing that will do any good is copper... not silverish foil stuff.
so if you lined the entire room with coper tape... when in that room you wouldn't get any cell phone signals tv, radio, and would block just about any kind of signal.
they have copper screen they used on Mithbusters to do just that.

what about one of those buzz stopper things(actual scientific terminology). i have seen them. you plug into it then into the wall and it is supposed to eliminate hum and buzz. wouldn't that be more prudent. im sure it was on musiciansfriend.com
