 SG vs LesPaul
Which is the more playable and has the fastest/smothest neck, generally?

In general I think Lp's are faster, but Sg's have better upper fret reach. But it really depends on the model, year, ect...

i'm a fan of both guitars, they're very different instruments.
tone-wise, i prefer the thicker, heavier, bodies of the Les Paul. and the thicker knecks as well. i'm a fan of guitar knecks that feel like swinging a baseball bat.

 LP vs. SG
I've played both and have to say I prefer the fatter "Baseball bat" neck of the Les Paul. However, the necks of the Les Paul have gotten a lot thinner while maintaining the width. I can hit the high end neck notes easier on the les Paul. It's really a matter of personal taste. I also play an ES-175 Hollow boy that has a shorter neck and its really hard to play some guitar solos. However, the action is so good that I can shred on two third of the neck and I'm only blocked by the heel at the base of the neck.

i actually my taste i liked the explorer it isnt the best guitar (harder to hit the 22nd fret with pinky than other guitars) but its shape makes u stick out, (most people in my area use lespauls, and fender suff.) so i stick out.

I prefer the look of the Les Paul, but I like the sound of the SG a lot more.

I've got one of each and the more time passes, I find myself thinking that I'll buy another SG next time, rather than the LP.

i've played both, but i totally dig the les paul a lot more. the sg is cool, but it is neck heavy, and while it looks cool, its actually better for rhythm work than it is for leads, due to the fact that it falls over when you solo
the les paul has more tone, thicker tone, and sounds better with active pickups. the sg doesn't.
go for the LES PAUL!

My back likes the SG! But I perfer my Lp's for most of my playing. Something about having all that mass to resonate the tone.

well i'v never played an SG but i do own a 1979 les paul deluxe, and think its one of the best guitars i've ever played
so i would have to go with the LP over the SG
i also think the LP is a far better looking guitar

I have both guitars (Epiphone LP Standard and G400 SG Limited Ed) and while the neck on my LP is thinner than the sg I have, its tougher to reach the higher frets because of the thick neck joint. The SG is alot lighter too in weight while keeping the same massive sound...only brighter. On the other hand the SG has a thicker neck than the LP I have, but that isn't much of a problem because I have big hands. I'm going to go with SG by being more playable and faster. As for smoothness, they both have lacquered necks, so to get them smooth you'd have to shave it which is commonly done on Les Pauls.

 Fast neck...
While both guitars are fantasic in thier own right I dont think either has what I would consider a "fast neck." I own a lp custom but if I want to play something with a fast neck look to Ibanez. Les Pauls and Sgs are more about tone. The greatest shredders I can think of play Jackson, Ibanez and Fender strats. You can learn to play a les paul fast but if you want a fast neck look into a mid to high range Ibanez.

I own a SG Epiphone, and it's fantastic.
But i guess, it all comes down to what you want out your guitar.
I prefer the SG over LP but the next guy will say vice verca.
