Post Question regarding tab (please help :) )
Hey guys.

I'm a "self-learned" guitar player and I've been learning mostly from studying tabs and videos from the internet. I play quite well now but I've stumpled upon some tabs where I've seen this:

Guitar 1
| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
| B|--10-10-10-10-10---10-10-10-10-10--10-10-10-10-10---10--|
| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
| D|--7--7--7--7--7----7--7--7--7--7---7--7--7--7--7----7--5-3-2-|
| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
| E|------------------------------------------------------------------5--|

And I wondered, how the hell do I play it? Do I hold it like a power chord but mute the G string? Or what Surprised

Have also seen this:
e------------------------------------------|
b------------------------------------------|
g-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-10-10-10-10-11-11-11-11--|
d-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x--x--x--x--x--x--x--x---|x3
a-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-8--8--8--8--9--9--9--9---|
d------------------------------------------|

e---------------------------------|
b---------------------------------|
g-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-|
d-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-|
a-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-|
d---------------------------------|

Where the tab indicate it's a mute, but I play these both the same way?

(the tabs don't look 100% correct but I think you understand them (if you have seen them before))

Any tips/corrections/answers appreciated!

(Hope this is the right place for this question:))

Martin

those are called octaves.

use your index and your ring finger to play. let the fleshy part of your index finger lay on the middle string to mute it.

If it sounds like the same note (just one higher than the other), you're doing it right!

you're right, the mute in the first one is implied, in the second one it is written out.

You can ALWAYS mute strings that you dont want to be played whether out of necessity or for ease.

I know that when I play almost any chord that doesn't include my low E string, I go ahead and mute it so that my chord is more clear and I dont accidentally hit it.
