Post Question about tuning's (Half step down, Drop D, etc.)
Is there an easier way to tune a guitar down a half step than to hold down the first fret while tuning? how would you do drop D? I mean i just wondering if on your tuner you can change it to say Drop D or what would happen if i change it to 439 then what would happen.? Just some newb questions. Thanks in advance.

i am not up on all of these alternate tunings ...but i believe drop D is simply your guitar tuned to standard pitch , then you de tune your low E string to D.

did that help any ?

i really am not a good one to answer tuning questions ....i just stick with standard most of the time.

Oh I'm sorry i didn't mean what are the different tunings, i was just wondering if you guys had tips on how to achieve these tunings. Like what is the easiest way to tune down your low E string. to a D. Sorry about not explaining it well enough.

Instead of tuning your guitar to EADGBE tune it to DGCFAD for D standard tuning, If you are speaking of Drop D tuning then just drop your LOW E to D.

I have a nice Korg rack tuner with a Drop Tune mode, so I just hit that button once to tune to Eb, twice to tune to D, etc Smile

The only issue really with changing to an alternative tuning i find, is what it does to floyd rose guitars, or any guitar with a locking trem bridge for that matter.
I'm always having to go into flat or double flat tunings, and it takes me about 10 mins to keep re-tuning my strings to level out the floyd tension again! Evil or Very Mad

I hear ya there... that's why I keep two guitars tuned to D and two to E... and usually carry a capo with me! We do one song in C in our Fallen Angel set, but I cheat for that - use the Whammy pedal in Droptune mode Smile

if i had to change tunings back and forth on one guitar , it would have a fixed bridge of some sort.

that eliminates the hassle of setting up your Floyd a zillion times.

That's what my SG's for haha
its just not as much of a shred guitar, and i like to have a slim neck with low action for those fast hardhitters
its worth the tuning in the end Laughing

What I do, Spike, is tune my Low E down while picking my D string.
When I'm not using a tuner, that is.

Me too!

And when I want it back to normal I just play the high E-string at the same time and tune after that. Quick and easy!
