 Problems tuning mini guitar??
I'm having problems not only keeping a mini guitar in tune, but tuning it.
Any advice? I heard there is something that can be done, but can't remember where I found it.

I would imagine that since the scale of the guitar is much shorter, that would probably explain the problems.
maybe you want to upgrade the tuning heads?

check out something like that.

to avoid buying new tuner heads...
try being very careful when you change your strings... make sure your wraps don't overlap... your goal should be to have 3 or 4 full wraps of your strings... stretch them out as you tune.

i know a kid that has a mini guiter...its a strat looking Rok Axe.
i have put strings on it for him, and had no tuning issues.
everything was just like normal...its just a shorter scale.
the tuning machines are junk.....but that is to be expected with a cheapo guitar .

I agree with nocojack....
Step I: make sure you don't have too many (or too few) wraps around the capstan.
StepII: better tuning heads
Step III: collect underpants
Step IV: ???
Step V: PROFIT!

get it in tune once... then play it at a show and smash it at the end of the set.

The trick is tuning them higher right? The shorter the neck, the less string tension you have, and so the strings have to be a little more tight? I think that's it. Or it's the complete opposite and you have to tune lower, but I don't think so...

Just got a (supposedly Gibson) Maestro mini-flying V package.
Strings stretched like hell for the first few hours.
Tuning pegs seem to hold their own.
Intonation is out like bejeezus!
Could definitely use a new adjustable bridge!
I usually set up the intonation with PC tuner software (external mic or mic/line in thing)..unless one has a very sensitive/filtered frequency counter.
I'll do it on this puppy later on this week.
The amp that came with it had a blown amp IC - (KIA6213) I replaced it ( with Frankenstein wiring) to an LM386 with the gain cap & small crazy-glued on copper heat sink(it gets hot), also cut the Vcc trace & put in a 1n4001 to prevent any reverse battery/power supply frying problems.
It's still humming away on a 9V batt as I type away & drink beer here..
Cheers!
