pick-up combinations...

Postby NHBluesMan » Fri Oct 23, 2009 1:25 pm

so, i have a set of Fender Texas Special single coils in a strat that i built. I'm looking for some tonal variety, so i' probably gonna stick a humbucker in the bridge position. Any suggestions as to what would sound good with the Texas Specials? (i'm looking for something bluesy, but that can still pack a punch with some distortion).

so far i'm considering:
- Dimarzio Mo' Joe
- Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates
- Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB
- EVH Frankenstein humbucker

also, does anyone have any experience with the humbuckers that are stacked in single coil housing? I've been looking into those as well. Questions, comments, let me know guys!
tune low, play hard, and floor it!!!

Get the Fender version of the Pearly Gates. It's brewed a little underwound so it won't be much louder than the TX specials. If you went with the JB, you'd almost have to have it under the pickguard lol.

As to the stacked singles (opening it up to include side-by-side) The Dimarzio Virtual vintage are awesome. Seymour Duncan stacks are good also. I have Joe Bardens in my Tele. GFS also makes a Strat PU called the NeoVin that I'm looking at too. Can't leave out Kinman's noiseless singles too.
