yeah... it blows... i dont listen to much new music nowadays, although there are still some good musicians out there... i believe there is a thread in here somewhere called "emo music, the demise of the lead guitar" and i think its true.... you can do a lot more with a guitar than barre chords.

It has more to do with what the Rakord companies will release than with the youth of today.

Youngern's will always act like youngern's, they have since the dawn of mankind.
All they want to do is stand-up and be noticed for what they do, not what their parents did.

They want the approval of their peers, not their parents.
All I wanted to do was be different.....like everybody else. Now I am.

There are kids out there that have dedicated a huge portion of their lives to practice and can shred shards of molten glass like nobody's business. But can they get signed? Not unless they have an EMO-like front-man and don't play anything doesn't sell.

The kid's are alright, the Rakord companies can wear it home in their collective asses.
YEP!!!

LOL I wouldn't say it's all young bands [I mean I'm only 19] but I think it would be more correct so say band who try to fit into a scene.

I'm talking about bands who play their shitty little 4 chord easy as hell songs and are endorsed not by music stores or companys, but clothing stores. Bands who care more about getting their hair right for a photo shoot then writing songs which people will want to listen to.

As far as screaming and all that vocal style go, I don't mind it, infact I love hearing a kick arse band who is fronted by a decend screamer. But also think that when a bunch of kids get together and form a band too often they just go for some dude who is willing to get up and scream not some one who is good at their chosen vocal style [wether it be singing, screaming growling etc]

or maybe I'm wrong and it really is all us youngens distroying music for everyone else Razz

Fear not. Bands like that may be all over the place, but they set the roof for themselves pretty low unfortunately. Independent artist are going to find that unless you have REAL skill and REAL melodies(which usually means real guitar and vocal skills) then you're not going to get far anymore. You think its a coincidence that bands like Heaven and Hell, Judas Priest, and even...dare I say it...GNR(ok Axl and some guys) are coming back into the scene?

I think that guitar bands are still in the forefront of the music business. There will always be another new guitarist who will do something different and interesting and be declared the next guitar god. I enjoy and learn from new guitarists! New styles are developing, and I pay attention to what new bands are doing. Not to steal their style, but to learn from it and incorporate new things in my playing. Guitar is here to stay!
