 Multieffect or pedals??
Hay
I'm thinking about buying some new stuff. I'm not sure that I should buy one good multieffect(like Boss GT8 or POD XT Live) or different pedals?? I need good delay(tap tempo is very important function), chorus and flanger. I like octavers too. I don't think that wah is very important but I want to use it from time to time. Do Boss GT8 and POD XTL have booster function?? I use drive from amp.

Boss IMO have very good effects but drives aren't so good. XTL has excellent drives but effects aren't as good as in GT8. You have to check them both on the same stuff and think about this.

I think that multieffects gives you too much functios and you won't use most of them. When you buy pedals you take what you want and need.

HMMMM... Multi effects.
It's very tempting to have an item you can just program EXACTLY the way you want, and change to those different sounds with the punch of one button.
Problem? They mostly sound pretty good at low volumes, and the louder you play, they harder they suck. Maybe I'm just a dinosaur, but most of this stuff is digital... and I have yet to find any "modeling" devices which I thought deserved to be anything but a paperweight. I buy and sell new and vintage equipment as a hobby (allows me to try a whole bunch of stuff) so my experience is fairly broad... but sound is such a subjective thing, and different things please different ears.
The exception might be some older eighties stuff... like the Ibanez Due 300 or the Maxon equivalent. These have a 5 knob super metal screamer, a digital delay, and a chorus in a single wide stompbox format. Other than that, go for the analog pedals... you will never be sorry for buying the real thing as opposed to a digital model, and mere shadow, of the effect you are after.

Better drives has POD but effects are better in GT8. It depends what you need mostly . If effects are more important and drives from "multi" may be used only like a boosters Boss could be better. If drives are more important than effects POD may be good for you. However VK has good drive so I might choose BOSS. You have to hear them both and decide on your own

if you havn't already bought a multieffect pedal, i wouldn't.. i love all my effects, and they are all single pedals, i bought the yamaha magicstomp from my buddie for cheap and thought it was gonna b sweet, but it wasnt, the other guitar player in mah band had a bossgt8 and he hated it, just buy what you need when you need it, it makes for better sound too because the single pedals are dedicated to only 1 thing, not 1000 things...

If you play a lot of kinds of music multi could be good for you. With one board you can play everything from blues to death metal and have not bad sound

Begginers usually buy multieffects. Why? Because they don't know all effects. They have to hear them first. When they choose their favourite ones, they can start thinking about buying single pedals. Noone should buy single pedals if it is a begginer. That's my opinion.

i currently have both kinds ...rack and floor!
i use the rack unit but i have to say i love the floor units better! one of my rack units went out and i had nothing till it came back...where as if a floor unit goes dead you still have the rest and they have knobs that can be changed on the fly ! ! !

individual pedals to me is better..they have a better quality to them..you could get some crackling though...but as long as you have good cords you'll be fine..Boss's pedals are nice for a mid priced set..but they're are some amazing high end pedals to choose from...personally I just stick with a wah and overdrive..

Hey, I'm new here. I got added by someone over at MySpace and suddenly saw all this cool stuff over here and thought I'd chime in.
I'm not an expert by any means, but it's really all just a matter of personal opinion. I bought a rack mount POD unit after playing around with a smaller one in the studio and really liking it's versatility. It's great for recording (midi in, midi out) and you can save your presets into your computer so you can muck around with it as much as you want and you've always got a backup to restore to. The other nice thing is you can always reproduce the effects you use in the studio when you're playing live with a click of the footswich (highly recommended if you're getting a POD). The one thing I did learn, however, is that you don't just want to use any amp with the POD. I used a 100 watt Marshall solid-state for the longest time and it was crap. No punch. Then, I got a rack-mount Mesa Boogie 50/50 and suddenly my world was complete. Power and versatility all in 4 rack units. And if I really want to get freaky, PODs are in stereo and my 50/50 has two channels so I can put a speaker cabinet on each side of the stage for full stereo sound. You can also run the POD direct into the house system and now you're literally everywhere. Oh, and I don't think I've ever seen a stand-alone pedal that can emulate various amplifiers or speaker cabinets.
