Post Mesa Boogie or new Line 6 Bogner Tube amps?
So I'm new here and seeing what this is like. I'm debating between a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier amp (w/ 4x12 cab) and the new Line 6 Bogner Tube amps. I know Mesa is extremely reliable and road-sturdy, but the head alone is near $1800!! I also know that if I got it, it would be the last amp I probably ever need to buy. However, I'd still need FX pedals and all that good stuff. The Line 6 has the FX built into it, and the 100 watt head and cab w/ Celestions is about $1500 for both. I just want to know if anybody has tried the Line 6 Bogner amps. I 'm trying to get the Mesa tone (at least close), but if I can, not pay the Mesa price. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

o man... go mesa if you. once your up in that range, line 6 just doesn't hold up with some of the other amp models out there... and built in effects aren't that amazing. save up the money for a mesa if you can... it will DEF be worth the wait

I haven't heard or played the line 6 bogner but if bogner put its name on it can't be that bad I would have to say try them both out and go with the one that you like better

Post Hmmm...
Id say go for the Mesa! I tried line 6,but never found it very catchy or intresting, I myself am debating right now on 3 amps,

1. Hughes and Kettner: Duotone Head
2.Mesa Boogie: Triple Rectifier
3.Marshall JCM2000

but im debating more between the first two! but anyways as for you... id say just hold up a bit and save up a little more, and get the mesa,it will pay off when you plug in your guitar and hit that first note and BAM! + you talked about pedals, I think Buying single stomp box pedals is much better, although more costly, but i think its better because you have more control over the single effect with different knobs to customize the sound of the effect till you get it sounding the way you LIKE! and you buy and use the effects you think you need in ur music playing or type of music you play, if you play in a band especially id reccomend a mesa, and the pedals. BUT if your just playing to learn songs you like, practice and dont plan on joining a band or anything then i would say the line 6 since its cheaper, maybe not even a line 6,just a cheaper costing head and a Multi Effects processor but if you plan on playing witha band/already in a band, you Definitely want MESA....its better to save up more money and go the extra mile! When you play some shows, or simply play and play with ur band, that extra mile goes pretty far. hey but ITS YOUR MONEY so try the amps first, play them, play them, and play them again till your happy with one,the sound of it and when ur ready,MAKE THE BUY! I keep playing those amps i mentioned above but i still cant decide which one to purchase (PLUS i only got 1000 haha im still saving up more money, slowly) Well GOOD LUCK ON getting an amp. Im in the same position right now but hopefully WE END UP WITH A SWEET ASS AMPLIFIER AND A SICK ASS SOUND! well gotta go man.PEACE.

buy what works the best for YOU.
....but think about this , if you want the Mesa sound ...why buy something that tries to sound LIKE a Mesa ? buy the real thing.

if money is a big issue...buy used.
if you shop around ,i am sure you can find the deal you want on the amp you want.

If you are looking for a solution that is sort of in the middle, I would suggest checking out the Line 6 POD effects lines. I own the Line 6 Pocket POD and find that you would not expect such a small unit to have as many versatile combinations of sound, effects, cab and amp emulations as it does. As for sound, I find that I can emulate almost any sound in modern rock. I think there are 300 presets, 16 effects in total on the pocket pod. Found a nice review here:

Tough call... I was looking at premium valve heads a few weeks ago (although Boogie are a LOT more expensive here in the UK) and tried a whole range. I'm not a fan of Line6, but the Spider Valve Bognor heads are really not bad at all... certainly better than Marshall's current offerings IMO (with the exception of the Vintage Modern, but that's a different beast). In the end, the amp that sounded best to me and had the best features for what I needed was the Peavey JSX, with the Laney VH100R coming in a reasonably close second. Both are considerably cheaper than a Boogie! Currently running a simple Boss CH1 chorus pedal in the FX loop, although seriously considering getting a TC Electronic M350 instead.

Post MESA!!
go with the mesa! I just picked up a Dual Rectifier Roadster (4 channels) Nothing bad about it except the price haha but after that its no more worries haha!! Hmm no no but my serious advice would be to try both amps out, whichever one you like more of EITHER BRAND... buy it, its ur money ur taste... dont buy what people think is better or people like,.... BUY WHAT YOU LIKE, WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR! Cant put it in any better way,.. good luck with choosing One of these amps!!! THEYRE BOTH GOOD STUFF... JUST GOTTA GET WHAT YOU LIKE THOUGH... WELL GOTTA GO. PEACE!

I actually owned a JCM2000 TSL100 for quite a while, and recorded with that and a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier a few years back. They are really two different beasts - the JCM2000 is more versatile IMHO, just because it can capture better clear tones...granted, you can rock the hell out with it, as the Grundge and Lead channels have serious balls, but I really liked the reverb and slight grit on the clean channel. Perfect for jazz/bluesy rock.

The Triple rectifier is more balls-to-the-wall heavy duty. More suitable for Metal and harder rock...for our album we ended up choosing the mesa boogie tracks over the JCM2000 for the lead guitar tracks (a Matchless was used for rhythm) - they blended nicely together. But yeah, depends what you want. The Mesa Boogie is definately not my first choice if I want a rocking tube amp that sounds great Clean. I'd go with the Marshall for that. But if you want straight bloody murder distortion, go with the Boogie.

Either way yo ucan't lose, those are 2 great amps.

i've never owned a mesa, but have played a few. from your first post, and your question you pretty much made the line 6 sound stupid. get the mesa, especially if you plan on using it for shows, cause i've heard of a lot of line 6 amps, expensive and cheap, breaking down at high volume, although i really don't know much about the bogners and have never played one. if you've saved up this much money, you might as well just go all the way.

Mesa, hands down.

I tried the Bognerfied Line 6 amp. It had some decent tones, but I hated the built in f/x. If I remember correctly, there was no f/x level control. The f/x were either there or not, no in betweens.

However, go down to your local shop and try these things out. Tell the sales person to back off and let you crank them up and see what feels right for you.

i have a mesa triple rec for about 5 years now...i love that amp...i put alot against it and it has destroyed them all....tube all the way...i also own the line 6 flextoneII amp head...it sounds good but no way compares to the mesa...the mesa is just louder and clearer...but i do like the peavey triple xxx as well thats 120 watts tube and sounds pretty good...that would be my second choice
