 Jazz Guitar
I've been talking to some people and they say Jazz Guitar is probably one of the hardest. Any one in here play Jazz, and is it that hard and how long do you play until you start seeing any improvements.

i played guitar in my school jazz band for three years. at first it felt like i was using a completely different side of my brain. i had to pretty much re-teach myself how to play guitar.after the first year, however, i started to catch up. it really all came from spending time with other musicians, jamming, and listening to guitar-heavy jazz.

definitely didn't make Jazz band at 16 in high school... I was disappointed but I wasn't that good back then.
Instead, I stayed home and learned how to play Alice in Chains, Metallica, and Sponge.

growing up my dad would listen to Mahavishnu Orchestra constantly (in my opinion, probably the greatest jazz band ever)
John McLaughlin's guitar work really inspired me as a musician, even though i had always listened to and played folk music. when i started to get into jazz guitar i put all of my dad's MO albums onto my ipod and studied them relentlessly.

jazz is a lot of fun to play. basically, jazz is a bunch of different chord shapes just like any other style. but once you get the shapes down, and know some theory for chords that have like, flat 5's and such, it's pretty easy. jazz soloing isn't THAT hard either. you just solo over the chord shapes. it takes some time but is still really fun to play

Jazz may be difficult initially, but if thats what your into playing it will come with time and practice. Playing many different styles of Guitar is what is hard to Me.
For example, how do think George Benson would fare sitting in with Metallica?

Not as strange as N'Sync and Aerosmith at the Superbowl halftime.

at least they're both pop/modern r&b. that was like n'sync )and i think britney spears) who fit together.
but then they were joined by aerosmith, which was just too sharp a contrast and made me not want to watch the rest of the super bowl.

If you're interested in learning more about the jazz guitar, Blake Aaron has some instructional videos out that are cool. You should be able to find out more about them at www.blakeaaron.com. He just hit #1 over at one of the contemporary jazz indie charts. Heck of a player.
