 Issue with my new amp...
Hey guys! I'm new here, so be nice to me. Give me new kid cookies or something. Seriously.
So my old Fender stage 100 I've had for a few years finally gave out, and yesterday I bought a 100 watt Fender FM 212 DSP combo. It's pretty rad, alot of tone varation and knobs tweak around with. At music shops, they never have footswitches set up, so it wasn't until I brought it home and had it set up that I realized there's a popping noise whenever I switch from the distorted channel to the clean. It's not as apparent when I turn down reverb, obviously, but it's still extremely annoying...plus I love my reverb. Also, the effects loop is extremely noisey.
I'm considering getting a Noise Reduction pedal for the effects loop, but do you think that would help with the "pop" when switching from dirty to clean? I also noticed the pop whenever I step on the "wah" button on my Morley. Only when in clean, though. And do noise reduction pedals cut down reverb at all?
Thanks guys,
~Laura~

hey Laura ,
the popping sound could be normal.

Thanks for the speedy reply.
Reverb is at 5. The store is about an hour away, but I've been looking around online to see if anyone else has had this problem. I may call Fender as soon as the weekend is over.

hmm. thinking about it... you have a DSP amp meaning, digital signal processing. otherwise known as digital effects. now, every time you switch between those effects, your amp has to load all the sounds that are created within that preset even if it's just like, distortion. so, on the clean channel, when you switch effects, that popping sound might just be the amp loading all the sounds that you desire from it. and the louder the reverb, the greater this popping is. i could be way off with that. but it seems that it might be a possible answer.

Yeah, that would make sense. But is there a reason I'm also getting a popping sound when turning on my wah? The sounds are fairly similar.

well ....when you activate a switch , it can pop or click ...if your amp picks up that sound, and amplifies it you will get a loud noise.

Haha, yes, that too makes sense. It just never happened on my other amp, or any of the practice amps I've gone through over the years. What a bummer!

yea...it really stinks.
some amps are bad about noises like that.
i would try another amp ....it might just be the nature of the beast
a lot of gain or distortion will only make it worse.

I had a fender practice amp that did the same thing, I didn't have it when I was switching channels. The popping came from turning off my amp. Try turning the gain down and switching channels to see if it reduces it.

There's a definite reduction when the gain is lowered...I'll just have to keep fiddling with it.

Solid state fender amps have some wicked awesome clean channels but their drive channels just tend to be pretty noisey and not too great.
I found my old Fender Princeton 65 watt solid state amp that i run on the clean channel only and just use a pedal to dirty up and it sounds pretty excellent.
I'm assuming that your drive channel is the noisy one and your clean sounds really nice and isnt too noisy. If that is the case, I would just get a nice distortion pedal instead of a noise suppressor.
Check out the Electro-harmonix graphic fuzz, or the Electro-harmonix Big Muff. I would steer clear of digital distortion pedals.

also, Boss makes a footswitch you might want to look into that, if it works like other boss pedals, it will switch on and off silently. I'm not sure if that will help or not though
