 individual coil splitting
I want to build a carvin blade guitar with three twinblade double humbuckers and am wondering if it would be possible to split the coils on each pickup separately. Does that make sense and is it possible?

You can coil tap any humbucker or humbucker style pickup. Completely possible.

as long as it is wired properly you can.
if it has 4 wires coming out of the pickup you should be fine.

 tone?
do you think that having three pickups split individually would give it a larger range of tones vs having them all split on one swith?

oh there is no doubt .....individual switches will give you the most tone options.
i like mini toggles for each pickup.
the only problem is that while playing live you really need to pay attention to your switches.
in the studio or just playing its no problem at all.

 other options?
Are there any other alternatives to having three toggle switches that are easy to hook up and easy to use?

I'm not sure either are easy, unless you have done it several times and have the method down. They're both completely possible to do on your own however. Be prepared for some major frustration if you're inexperienced.
Tip: to make sure your pickups are wired properly, tap a coin or something else (even a string piece) against the magnets while it's hooked up to an amplifier. That way you can test your wiring job without having to piece the whole thing back together before realizing you screwed up. Which you will almost definitely

yea....if this is all new to you , do a lot of research BEFORE starting the job.
and if you are not good with a soldering iron , and reading a diagram , it might be wise to have a pro do it.
when you start messing with coil taps and out of phase wiring things tend to get rather tricky.
www.torresengineering.com has some great wiring ideas , and parts to do the job right.

Yeah that Ray Torres's book "Inside Tube Amps" has been educating my dad and I for a couple months now. I second his recommendation.
