This isn't going to sound like good advice but pick up a smoking habit (menthols seem to do the trick the fastest to help lower your pitch) and also start drinking whiskey and jsut practice growling, you'll eventually teach yourself the right and wrong way to do it. Make sure to use your diaphram and not your throat, by using your throat you will 1.) go hoarse or 2.) cause permanent vocal damage.

I would try inward screaming first. (Bree Bree!)

I would not recommend doing anything like smoking to adjust your throat. It CAN make the sound, you just have to teach it. Notice that when you burp you have an extremely low pitch. You don't need to modify your throat you just need to control it.

Also, just like on your guitar, to make vocals more brutal and heavy you do not need to add more distortion, you need to just have a enough distortion but mostly volume and bass. Equalize the mics and get the levels good, dont strain yourself.
