Post Gibson,fender or ibanez
O.k.,which guitar would be the one you would prefer(epiphone, squier and gio count too, since they are the cheaper versions of those named above)and why

I should probably write Ibanez since I own two, and none of the others. But the next guitar I'll buy will probably be a fender stratocaster.

I don't think I'll ever buy a Gibson though. Not that I have anything against them, on the contrary. It's just that the ones I want are too expensive for me, and I'd rather buy two (or more) other guitars before I buy one Gibson.

Yeah, I can get all kinds of sounds from my rga ibanez, I can even make it sound a bit like a Gibson (perhaps not so strange since it has mahogany/maple body and humbuckers), but i cannot make it sound like a fender.

the new Epiphone's look to be incredible ...
2 SG's and 2 Les Pauls each with 24 fret ebony boards , figured maple tops, Gibson Dirty Fingers or EMG pickups .....
the Pauls are $ 699 , and the SG's are under $ 600 .

i cant wait to try these jewels ...i hope i am not disapointed .

It all depends on what particular guitar you are wanting from these companies you're looking at getting and for what style of music. I love my Ibanez RG for shredding on, my stratocaster for more blues oriented stuff.
Gibson's are nice for several styles but can be pretty rediculous for the price. What style music do you play? If you are looking at lower end Gibson or Fender, or ever Epi's or Squire's, then I would go for an Ibanez, because the guitars they've been turning out lately are pretty good (better than the one I got without upgrades...)

I have Gibsons and Fenders. Not so much interested in Ibanez, the whole modernrock/metal/downtuned/superstrat thing ain't my bag. I'd consider some of their more retro offerings, though, like the Artcore line for semi's/hollows and the Jet King for a garagey vibe.

Each line covers a lot of ground, though. I think most everybody really oughta have at least one of the 3 big icon guitars (or a similar model): Strat, Tele, Les Paul. Maybe throw in SG as well.

I have got one G L Legacy with one humbucker and a superb Japanese made Tokai Love Rock. Both are fantastic, and not as expensive as fenders and gibsons. The GL is very easy to play and has got a lovely tone but the Love Rock is my absolute favourite. It is heavy and has got a very powerful sound and superb tone, it really rocks! Tried out many Gibson Les Paul types that just don't compare to the Tokai. Comparing the Strat to the Les Paul is like comparing apples and bananas, it is a matter of taste and what you want. Try out both and you'll know.

This is exactly the sort of thing I meant when saying people should have guitars of the same types as Strat, Tele, and LP. In other words, the name on the headstock isn't important, the overall type of guitar is. I'm not a Strat guy, so an inexpensive Peavey USA Predator fits the bill for me on that score (it replaces a MIM Fender Strat I previously had). For Teles, I have a couple Fenders but also a no-name Frankentele a buddy of mine slapped together. Similarly, though I have a couple different types of Gibson Les Pauls, I also have a couple of non-Gibsons that, although they aren't Les Paul clones or knockoffs, have a similar sound/construction but a different visual aesthetic (Fernandes Ravelle and DeArmond Jet Star). My SG-type previously was an Epi G400, since replaced by an Agile Valkyrie II (Agile being the import "house brand" of Rondo Music, which sells direct from it's website and on ebay).
