 First bass guitar
Hi all!
I'm going to buy my first bass guitar. I have about 400$. What can you recommend? Sky Way guitars are cheap, but.. I heard some bad words about them. Is it true than they're just a piece of sh*t?

Don't buy SKY WAY!!! Try Washburns - they're good and don't cost a lot . I know 2 people with Wash basses one 4 and one 5 strings. I don't know whitch models are they but I'm sure that they're rather cheap. Sound and pickups are good. I can't tell anything bad aboud finish .

MY first was a sears craftsman hollow body electric ( bridge and neck). looked kinda funny but it played well and had an unusual sound when cranked through a fuzz and bandmaster...

Allan - forget the model name but it had active electronics and it didn't reawlly sound bad. PLayability - subpar for sure, but playing through an amp it sounded surprisingly full. They're cheap for sure also. I think it was $270 about for mine.

I think for the money Squire makes a great jazz bass and a really cool model with a P and J pickup, I think they call it a precision special or something. But, for the buck, I think Squire or Ibanez are the way to go for a first bass.

My first bass was a white Japanese Squier Jazz bass that I bought second-hand. Absolutely kick-ass bass, lovely to play, wish I still had it. I hadn't played a J-bass for 13 years until last Christmas when my wife bought me a fretless Columbus Series II Jazz bass, which plays great but sounded awful until I fitted EMGs to it. My next bass was a Charvel Fusion Custom V 5-string (the like of which I've never seen before or since) which was fantastic, but I changed it when I started having problems with the active electronics (got a Washburn XB-600 next). Then I got my Yamaha TRB4II, and I've never needed to try a different fretted 4-string since!
