Has anyone heard John Frusciante play solo on acoustic? The man is the definition of amazing. There's nothing fancy going on, just a great songwriter.

well, for me my favourite acoustic player is Dustin Kensrue, the lead singer of Thrice he displays a completely different kind of emotion than he does with Thrice and it's amazing when a singer songwriter can do that as well as he does
another one of my favourites is a kid i found on myspace the other day he's only 16 years old but he's got a great voice and his songs have great feel to them you should check him out!

I would have to go with Michael Hedges!!!!!! I believe Vai was quoted as saying that Michael was the Jimi Hendrix of the Acoustic. Do not have the documentation handy to back that up at this time, but I believe it. It is to bad he was taken from us suddenly in an auto accident in the mid to late 90's. I got to meet him twice, and even got his autograph on one of my CDs. A very humble dude on top of it all. None of this, "Yeah, I'm a guitar god and you are privileged to be in my presence!" type stuff. Saw him first at Shank Hall in Milwaukee with the most awesome bass player Michael Manring (check out Thonk if you can get a copy, it's out of print right now though). Then I saw him again at the Barrymore in Madison, WI, where he opened up for Leo Kottke; another monster player on the acoustic. Especially 12-string slide. Kottke is not as fast as he use to be, I think he fried his hands there for awhile and had carpel tunnel syndrome, but he still is awesome to see in concert. Missed his Green Bay show last Jan. though. It was sold out before I could get a ticket. BUMMER!!!!
Al Di Meola is a wizard of the acoustic fret board as well. If you like spanish, flemeco style of playing get a copy of his "Live in San Fransico on a Fiday Night" with Paco De lucia, and John McLaughlin and early 80's release. Total acoustic fret board shred!!!!! I could add a few more but don't want to hog the sounding board. Rock On!!!!!!
