Epiphone Serial Number

Hi all.
Ive just purchased an Epiphone Wildkat from Ebay(used). On inspecting the back of the headstock the original serial number has had the last 3 digits scratched off and then covered by a white sticker with another random serial number on it. Anybody know why this has been done?

ooo... that was probably someone trying to either defraud the guitar, or make it so the next person to buy it would think it's something different. you, happened to have a good eye and see it although it is probably pretty noticeable. if you like the guitar and are going to keep it, i don't think it should be to big of a deal though
