the emg hz passive pickups are supposed to be the equivalent of the active 81's, BUT my good friend and local guitar teacher said they suck, because they have little harmonic balance, that's it's hard to hear all the complexities of what your playing. he suggests the dimebucker for, in his words, the hottest passive pickup he's ever played.
BUT, alexi laiho (children of bodom) was playing them, then switched recently to the seymour duncan blackouts, which are active
you'll never know until you try 'em, though
hope that i helped
now that i read over what i wrote, i probably just made it harder to choose. lol

ya know...i didnt think about there being something NEW out there.....my opinion is based on the passives that have been out for a few years or so. i guess they are hz's . they came stock in some jackson models with an emg active boost maybe called an afterburner....i forget the name...i just remember they are lame.

yea....the Batman is cool....but those EMG Selects were terrible at best.
speaking of the worlds greatest detective...in your opinion, what actor was the best Batman ?
christian bale (or however you spell it)....Batman Begins is my vote .

Def. Christian Bale. I mean, Holy shit, Batman!
sorry guitarfreakyman, had to respond.
also, i'm designing my new tattoo(s), starting at the wrist with bats that get larger as they come up to my shoulder. left arm, no room on the right arm for such a project.

back to the passive EMG's......has anybody found a NEW one ? or was it the HZ's that this whole thing was about?
IF there is something new out there...i want to find out about it.

indeed it is.....
in the end our brand preferences, and preconceived notions need to be tossed out the window.....
trust your hands and your ears.....if it plays good, and it sounds good....IT IS GOOD.
now...if i could just follow those rules myself !

thats why i love my DrZ Airbrake so much....
i can hit that " T " spot on all of my amps ,and not blow out my ears.
the mysterious " T " (tone) spot on a tube amp is much like the " G " spot on a woman.....not many know where is is , but the rare few who do can work magic !
i wanted to use "S" (sweet)spot...but couldnt think of anything clever to write about that.....sorry.
T rhymes with G......it was a bit of artistic liscense. lol
