 Dean Z 88(Jackson shaped)
I have a friend who is selling one of these. I haven't looked at it yet, but from what I understand it looks like this, only with a fixed bridge and a pickguard. I've never been very good at the academic part of being a guitar player (names, dates, trivia), but does someone know a little about this line?
Were there any other Z models similar to this called something other than the Z 88?

He want $100 for it.

i had a neck thru Dean for a while ....it was a soloist clone.
i think it was called a custom something or other....i forget.
i bought it with no hardware ...put it together with stuff i had lying around , and sold it for a hefty profit.
it was a nice guitar.

It is a sweet looking guitar. I'm getting anxious to go look at it, but I have to wait until Wednesday. I think I'm going to get it, as long as it isn't hammered. My daughter needs an electric, and I think the fixed bridge will suite her well, although I would prefer if it had the tremolo bridge as shown.
Did your soloist clone feel much like a Jackson, Chuck, or did it play differently?

the Dean felt good , and played fine...not up to the Soloist level ...but they dont carry the Soloist price tag either.
i wish i could remember the model .....it was a beautiful metallic charcoal ....hmmmm , i hate being old and senile.

Well I finally got to look at it. Its a little rough looking (stripped out strap buttons and some superficial rust, missing tremolo spring cover, small warp in the pickguard, and a couple of scratches/dings) but it should clean up nicely. A quick bridge, truss rod, and tilt adjustment and it plays pretty well. The neck is straight and has almost no fretwear. It's barely been played. I'll need to change the strings (I'm at work and haven't done that yet), but it seems it doesn't have any playability problems.
It turns out, it's called a Dean Z Playmate. Its a stratocaster copy with 2 single coils and a bridge humbucker, 5 way pickup selector, volume, 2 tones, and a Strat style tremolo. Its sort of off white with a black pickguard. It's very light. It reminds me a lot of my 90s peavey predator. The neck feels like a Jackson, with a slightly smaller fret radius (more curve). The headstock is identical to the first picture I posted of the 88, only it says Playmate in small letters in the crook of the Z.
Dean has a Playmate line still, but it's a super economy kids guitar, and isn't a DeanZ. S/N is 8701904 so I'm guessing it's probably an 87, which looks and feels pretty close. I think it will be a decent guitar for my little rock-and-roller.
Anybody know anything else about this line?
I'll post a pic when I get it all cleaned up.

If I had the bread, I'd get her this to go along with it:
Of course if I had LOTS of bread, I might lay the $900 for this
But I'll probably just try to find a used Roland Microcube, or the VOX equivalent.
