Post Buzzing due to Truss Rod
I recently took my new guitar (US Fender tele) in to get it setup and the tech told me that the truss rod was loose and that the only way he would be able to solve the problem would be to replace the neck.
I subsequently took it back to the shop as I found it was under guarantee and they set it up with their tech. Apparently the truss rod was working the way its supposed to. was just loose and needed tightened. The guitar is playing fine...
It was weird because it seems very extreme for the first guy to have said that he wouldn't be able to fix it without replacing the neck...
I'm even more intrigued by looking on the net to find that you can actually buy new truss rods.
I just wanted to know if replacing the neck in the case of having a faulty truss rod (or one that is incorrectly installed) is ever necessary?

Thank god my guitar seems to be okay now,

you have to be careful who you take your guitar to for work.

i would only get work done at a shop where i'm on a first name basis with all of the staff.

(most of the people in the shop i go to recognize my wife when she goes in)

The only way a truss rod could be bad, is if the rod is striped or broken. Most cases it's easier to replace the neck. Unless you have a vintage guitar or an acoustic (where swaping necks is not an option), changing out the truss rod can be expensive and time consuming.

Cheap no-name guitars or necks can buzz however, because the truss rod channel is too big or the rod isn't properly inserted due to poor tolerances.

Always check your truss rod nut, to make sure it isn't loose.

The second tech, that did my guitar under warranty, said the truss rod definitely wasn't broken and was working properly.
Its an American series Fender so you would have thought the truss rod be inserted properly...

I'm wondering (and hoping!) that the first guy maybe had just too much work that hed taken on and needed an excuse not to take on my guitar!
I have had some bad experience with repairers before. (one painted up a neck on my old gibson with car paint!)

Apparently if there were to be a definite problem theyd need to send it back to Fender's factory in California to look at! Fingers crossed all is in order now as I'm thousands of miles away from California- I live in Scotland!

It seems to be playing great now anyway, since getting it back, so hopefully thatl stay the case!

Cheers Smile
