 Boss Noise Suppressor
I play classic rock and blues, and my tube amp makes alot of noise so I want to get one for live, but mostly studio playing. I've heard different reactions from different folks about it sucking the tone from you, but most people say it doesn't. What's your experience with it, is it a good buy?

most anything by boss is good stuff. part of the tone sucking that people talk about is partially about placement in the pedal chain. i like them and think they serve a good purpose

I used an NS-2 way back when I was giging. I loved it. It only IMPROVED my tone by getting rid of some buzz!

Good pedal... I know someone who uses 2 of them. in between about 8 pedals.
Keely, Boss, and Elecrto harmonix. Is rig sound really good and quiet..
so I like them..
and yes, it is all about where you put it..

Agreed! I'm curious as to what your approach was. I found that it was great to put after my distortion, compressor, wah, and chorus, because those pedals generated to most noise (well, not the compressor, unless I was really "squashing"), but I'd put it before my reverb and delay to make sure my echos didn't get clipped. As far as noise reduction pedals go, what was your philosophy?
Oh, by the way, I don't know if they make them anymore, but the Rocktron Hush pedal was also a great noise reduction.

i run an ns-2 and it doesnt mess with my tone one bit. all the hiss, buzz, and anything else you can think of disappears. i think its way better than the rocktron "hush

i would try to find any other way around it, because your best tone comes from mids and trebles, especially at the harmonic level. This also is where you get hum when you hum. See if the is any other way first.

I actually ended up getting one. So here's my set up - Guitar - Wah - DS-2 (distortion) - Equalizer - Noise Surpressor - Amp.
Would you say that this is effective? I really like the pedal, but the one thing that I really don't care for is that when you attack the note, it's quiet and abruptly get's to normal level. Is this common? Thanks alot for the tips guys!

its always best to find out what is making the most noise. and place it after that.... because the sooner you stop it before it goes through any other pedals ...the better..

daisy chaining effects together sometimes causes suffering on the tonal end of things. for instance, i used to power everything i had off of my boss tuner(only did this because i could not afford a nice power supply). but, when i hooked up my line 6 echo park and tried to use distortion with it, it would buzz to the point where you could hear the light blinking(meaning that the sound pulsed with the light). but it's just because the power coming from the tuner wasn't powerful enough for that pedal and such. so, if you can, get a decent power supply for your rig
