 best distortion pedal
my favorite is the marshall guv'nor ll pedal. with it,i can turn almost any small practice amp into a raging beast. it has a "deep" knob that really dials in the low end. running it into my epiphone valve jr,and a 1x10 cab is downright awesome sounding.
this set up, and running it into a few different elcheapo solid state practice amps(marathon, ibanez, and an old charvel) are all i have used it for.
i dont use pedals with my big amps , so i cant comment on how the guv'nor ll sounds thru them.
i know that the guv'nor ll makes the much vaunted(and in my opinion over rated) ibanez tube screamer run away screaming for its life.

there are 3 new pedals out there that seemingly have pretty sick distortions...I've never personally tried them out but I've seen videos of them on youtube and have heard people tell me about them...The first one and apparently the best one being the Krank Distortus Maximus pedal, it apparently kicks serious ass. Another good one is the Landmine distortion pedal, super simple but apparently quite ballsy. Then there's the Tonebone Plexitube Hot British Distortion pedal. It has a tube in it, and there's a scoop setting that scoops out the mids, this pedal looks a little more expensive though because it's got more options than the other two I've mentioned. Kirk Hammett also uses this pedal =)

Are you jokin'?? You write 'bout stuff you haven't event heard live?? GOSH...
I really like Boss distortions - DS-1, OS-2, MD-2 and MT-2 - IMO they're so good. Moreover, Marshall Jackhammer is a pedal I really like - typical brit drive

Agreed. I modded mine with a LM308 like the vintage ones. No other disto comes close.

Me too. I love Boss distortions.
I have the OD3 Overdrive and DS2 Turbo Distortion.
No matter how many distortion pedals I try I always go back to my Boss Turbo distortion! DS1 is ace too
Still to try the metal zone...

I also agree with Caco. Boss distortions are the best. DS-1, OS-2 (its good but not enough:)). I recomend DS-1. OD-3 has good sound too. IMO MT-2 has a plastic sound. But I dont like heavy sounds:), maybe its the reason why.

honestly, you should look into some custom shop pedals. i have the boss MT-2 modified by robert keeley electronics. it SCREAMS. it goes from subtle to kill your dog in a heartbeat. basically he took out all the cheapo parts and replaced them and he put a three way switch on it for three types of distortion:
metal zone only better, extended bottom end, and a tube sounding beast. i usually run with the tube one cranked up.

Many variations of the big muff are my favorites. And the MXR distortion.

i've got this distortion pedal called a Tornado, by some Russian company, it's a weird one and i haven't seen any around anywhere, not even sure who their distributors are.
anyway, it's got a great think distortion, a full on Marshally kind of sound even thru my fender....
