I don't know about the bass head, that may sound a little off, but I for one am a fan of playing guitar throgugh bass cabs. Thy make te speakers more heavy duty for bass, and I think it sounds phenomnal. I have acually used a Peavey 112 bass combo practice amp for guitar several times, and it seemed to sound fine. My $0.02 for you.

you can get a workable guitar tone from a bass amp ....with the right guitar preamp , or (uggghh)distortion pedal.

you can use the bass amp as a power amp that way.

yeah you could use it as a power amp. I used to use a Carvin 4 x 12 Cab when I gigged out sounded great I missed that cab...lol

Reb Beach (Winger / Whitesnake) used a Hartke bass amp for his clean tones for many years, so it can certainly be done. Most bass amps don't offer distortion though, which is why you'd probably want a preamp or some kind of POD device to add dirt. One notable exception is the Gallien Krueger Backline series, which does have footswitchable overdrive that sounds reasonably decent on rhythm guitar...

Try an electro harmonix graphic fuzz in front of a bass amp.

just saw this question and figured i'd answer it.

basic way to think about the differences between a preamp and a poweramp, is that a preamp SHAPES your sound, and a poweramp is what just makes it louder. you get virtually no tone from a power amp but when coupled with a really good preamp, things sound amazing. as a bass player myself, i just use my preamp as my DI and don't use an amp. but when i do, all i need to do is get a power amp and a cab and i'm good to go. hope that helps
