Well i've heard many people say if your playing a really high end guitar through it then it sounds awesome (isn't that true of most amps though?) but some of my friends say its nothing special. I don't know if thats true though just what i've heard people say.

Short story:

I played them at GC in Rockville. They had 2 in stock. I played the one through a B52 cab and then through a Peavey Penta Cab. I played it through a Gibson Les Paul Standard and a Gibson SG Special. The one I played was missing the "on" lamp and a few bushings. I wanted a new one, since I really liked the sound and features. He went to the back and couldn't find the other one. Found one on the floor that was broken. Distraught, the GC sales guy said he'd give me a good deal on the Peavey Penta head. I tried it out and loved it. Paid 50% of what I came in expecting to spend.

In conclusion:

Go play one. You'll like it. Get a good deal and make sure that everything is the way you like it.

The thing that's great about the Mesa Triple-Rec (which people compare this to) is that it's very diverse. You can get a lot of different sounds out of it. So, logically, it does sound like a Mesa.

Also, at about $1200 cheaper... it's close enough Very Happy

That being said... if you want a Mesa, get a Mesa.
