 touch of jazz
Way back in the day I was really impressed with Chuck Mangione's guitar player. Can't recall his name but he seemed like an infiltrator to me, sneaking in some cool rock and roll licks in the midst of that controlled chaos (sounds like metal, doesn't it). Bella Fleck and the'Tones held my fascination, but that was by watching them. I don't know what my reaction would be if I only heardthem. Finally, I played the heck out of Jeff Beck's Wiredalbum. Of course that's known more as "fusion" than just jazz or rock'n'roll. My dad was the biggest jazz fan I knew. He was really into these complex chords and what I thought were awkward rhythms. Al DiMeola is another name that comes to mind. Again, a "fusion" player. He's great, if speed is what you're after.
