 Alternate Strat?
Me and one of my bands would always carry our guitars around when er're walking around town and such. One day I realized that my friend Dylan's guitar, which we thought was a Stratocaster, actuall read Starocaster. Is this a mistake, or just a different guitar?

ha.
i did a set-up on a guitar for a kid i work with, he had a decent Squier. i had fun playing it, but i couldn't figure out how to deaden the noise it made no matter what i did.
i took a picture of myself playing it, just because other-wise you would never see me playing a strat.

i am totally in love with the tone and the way Gibsons play, but i have an Ibenez RG 560, it's a great guitar, but it doesn't get nearly as much play as my V, or my Sonex
Ibenez does create a fast kneck though, and the locking Trem make them a real reliable guitar for playing out, the 560 was a great live ax for the amount of abuse i could subject it to, and it would still sound great and be in tune at the end of a set.

just now, my wife leaned my RG 560 off the end of the couch because she had to move it to sit down, sure enough the thing went right over on the floor in front of my eyes.
the guitar is fine though, those things were built like tanks. (it's safely in it's case now)

eh, what wood is made out of? i know my RG1527 is made of basswood which is a soft wood. the finish chips easily. i mean, that isn't a design flaw it just means you have to take care of it that is all. which, i do. it stays in the case most of the time when i am not playing it

Oh, that explains alot. I didn't really sound like a Strat in the first place, plus it didn't really go well with my Firebird and our other guitarist's Les Paul. (we're big gibson people)

i couldn't tell you what wood it's made of anymore. but the finish is in remarkably good shape, the only chip in the finish on the guitar is on the head-stock, from when i used the guitar to take down a microphone stand at the end of a set once.

O God I was at a guitar store yesterday and they had this ibanez there and so i picked it up it was so light and the neck was so skinny it wasn't even funny but before i picked that up I was using a Fender Tele.

 Starcastor
Ebay strikes again: The company that makes the starcastor will sometimes have the word stratocaster on the top of the add. They'll advertise the guitar in a package deal for $149.95. Other times they'll just have picture of the guitar without showing the head stock which would give you a clue that it is not a real strat. As for Squire's, I've gotten some great tones from them after doing a bit of modifications. However, if you want a Strat for cheap, just buy the Fender Strat on musiciansfriend.com for $399.00. It is not American made but it does the job. I prefer Gretsch and Gibsons. I can get a total Stratocaster sound from my Gretsch so I don't use a strat any more. It's all about what you like and want to play. There is no right or wrong guitar (except when cheaply made), it's simply a personal chioce.
