A Pedal that makes my guitar sound like strings
Hey everyone. I was wondering if there was such a pedal that would make my guitar sounds like it was a stringed instrument like the violin or something like that. Think of the strings setting on an electric keyboard, which is where I got the idea. Thanks.

 YEA!!
yea man theres a thing called a guitar synthesizer, my friends got one and there great real lot of fun, and you can do alot more than just strings
brass, woodwind, bass guitar, even drums! and the list goes on
http://instruments.search.ebay.com/guitar-synthesizer_Guitar_W0QQcatrefZC12QQfromZR40QQsacatZ3858
there a little pricey but thats just ebay, search around maybe craigslist and even the want ad.
the way it works is, you have to mount a second pickup kinda like a midi pick up(not too hard my buddy taped on worked likea charm!) that is bascially a single coil, but it has 3 modes, midi, mix, and bypass
pretty much just the synth sounds, a blend of your guitar tone, and then synth, then just your guitar alone. pretty handy
there may be other ways maybe just a single pedal that emulates the string your looking for, prolly alot cheaper but i dont no. just lettin ya no wat i no hope i couold help!

Digitech spacestation has a pretty similar effect. Along with an assortment of other crazy settings. Really fun to play with though.
Or if you really have some time to kill try an E-Bow. Its main draw is making string sounds.

effect that makes your guitar sound like strings
God I'd love an ebow! Quite expensive though!
You can get an approximation of this effect by using volume swells.
Sometimes I do this with a bit of chorus on the guitar and gradually bring up the volume control knob. Works better with a fair bit of overdrive...
Sounds amazing with a bit of feedback too

The only way to imitate violin with guitar is midi pickup or guitar like this Roland: (I have problem with net :/ - I'll add it as soos as possible )
Firstly, it's impossible to use pick like bow.
Seccondly, violin is fretless instrument - guitar has frets.
Moreover, violins are mostly accoustic instruments...
It's hard and you won't recieve exactly the same sound - it can be simmilar.

The ebow, swear by it if you want a string sound. Look into it, they're not that expensive, about a hundred to $150 and well worth it. It magnetizes the string for a constant sounding of the string it's placed on... you have only to use the left hand to voice. A great little toy, especially used in conjustion with effects that delay and the like, also going octaves or part down with a whammy pedal gives you sounds that resemble other string instruments. Check it out, it's worth looking into.[/i]

here is a cheap (well sorta) way of getting the effect you want . Should i say this is what i do...
boss ps3 or boss ps5
digitech legend 21 with delay (use the synth patch and a volume pedal) and finally a glass bottle.
this will take some practice with the volume pedal though, you have to have it all the way off when you pick the string to eliminate the clunk from the pick for a smooth sound like a fret less instrument. then bring the volume up for effect. I have also used this on my fret-less bass and it has its own sound.

Listen to any of the ERIC JOHNSON records!! This guy does such AMAZING things - often sounding like a violin playing some fantastic phrases - and it all done completely with his Fender guitar and some twiddling with his rig. But essentiall its all TONE, TONE, TONE!!!

have you really seen ERIC JOHNSON's rig? take a closer look , he has more toys than the local music store.....jk , but his rig is something else. of course unless he has changed recently...love the different tones he gets though.

i've been looking at the ebow as well. Can't justify the price yet, but it looks pretty fun.
(It also looks fairly basic, I wonder if I could make one??)
