I have a budget of around 500-700 dollars. I am looking for a rock/blues/heavy/hard rock sound, basically a guitar with variety..
i am thinking about the epiphone black beauty. any suggestions?

Do you need 3 hums?? I porpose Cort M600 with Duncans SH-4 and SH-2. Also Jacksons Pro Series are really good and universal guitars

if you're looking for variety, you can't go wrong w/ a Strat... for more Metal leanings, they have many models equipped w/ humbuckers in the bridge position - however, overall, the Strat has to be the most versatile guitar on the market.

100% agreed. You seriously can never go wrong with the strat. I've seriously played every commonly-purchased guitar on the market since 1995 and the strat is by far and away the best and most versatile out of all of them. It's simple-looking so it's cheap. I'd recomend a Fat Strat or HSS strat, because those give you a humbucker in the bridge AND two single coils. Put in a humbucker with a coil tap, and you got two strats in one!
Seriously, get a strat.
If you're in the mood to spend a little more money on something truly amazing though, check out www.warmoth.com you can get separate custom-made bodies and necks. Build a strat or tele from there.
Do not accept ANYTHING other than Fenders!! They are the real deal!!!

 Don't buy an Epiphone.
Fenders are good, but only if you spend a ton of money on them (I'm talking at least $1,000). And then, I don't think they're that worth it. Just my personal opinion. Fender basses are a whole different story...
I would look into getting an Ibanez or an ESP. Those are great guitars, and not just for metal, but for other stuff as well. Most Ibanez's over $400 come with pretty good stock pickups. In fact, Ibanez is the only guitar besides the ESPs that come with great pickups. For 700-800 you might even be able to find a cheap PRS somewhere if you're lucky.
I wouldn't waste my money on an Epiphone. Period.
Jacksons are good but you have to be careful which one you get if you are looking for something with more diversity. That, and they generally come with cruddy pickups.
Best thing to do: just go a guitar store and play a ton of guitars. And when you play them, play them through a real crappy amp. Whichever one sounds the best is going to sound amazing through a good amp. Keep in mind the feel of the guitar as well.
Hope this helps!

Screw that...go to Rondomusic.net and you can buy 3 or 4 guitars for that much. Everything I've heard about them is good. The most you might have to do is replace some of the electronics but you'd probably do that wath most guitars anyhow. Worth a shot if you ask me. I just wish I wasn't so broke...I wanna start picking them up to add to my little collection. Ok...there's my 2 cents.

I just bought a LE Epi SG, I was hesitant in buying an SG because I am a LP lover all the way and always have been, but it came w/ EMG's and when I plugged it in it was amazing, so easy to note and play, which is rare for an SG, it had a very nice look to it, (White w/ Black hardware) it was $600 from guitar center, and I have caught myself playing that more than my Gibson Les Paul sadly, but I don't think you can beat the sound.

I would suggest buying an used ibanez rg 550 or 570, you can't go wrong with one of those and their equipped with decent pickups. The best for the price if you ask me.

I have an 87 Charvel Model 2, which is a comfortable player, but limited tonaly. I also have an 03 Am Strat HSS with a Pealy Gates Hum and two Tex Mex singles, it's also a great palyer, but the neck on the Charvel is faster (Hagstrom thin). Either of those is a good suggestion, and you could pick up a Charvel on Fleabay with enough left over to get a pedal or two (based on your budget).
I really like the Epi LP Ultra, great player and comfy. Pretty good fit & finish, and it's at the lower end of what you want to spend....

 $500 - $700 Guitar
The best guitar in this price range is the one that feels best to you and appeals to you most. Just make sure you check out different online stores to make sure you're getting a fair price. Any reputable brand should be decent in this price range. A humbucker will generally sound better in the bridge position for most rock, but who's gonna argue with Jimi Hendrix, SRV, and Richie Blackmore about that? Not me.
Single coil = bright
Humbucking = fat

And becouse of this coils spilting in humbs was designed . Humbucker in bridge position is good idea if you play a lot of dirty guitars... Singles works good in clean/light overdrive parts but also in shredding(better are neck singles) .

Try Cort M600. Great finish, good sound. But you have to try it first. It doesn't have neck like Ibanez RG or Jackson. Epiphone Standart and Custom are a good option too.

EPI LP STD isn't a good guitar... IMO it's too expensive with it's crappy pickups... Cort m520 has better pickups and it's better finished... M600 is very similar to m520 - the only difference is flamed maple top...
