Strike the note and bend upwards a semitone. A semitone is the distance from one fret to the next.
To check you're right you can compare the sound of the bent note with the sound of the next fret up (played with no bend, of course).
Full Bend:
Strike the note and bend upwards a whole tone. A whole tone is the distance between two frets .
To check you're right you can compare the sound of the bent note with the sound of the note two frets higher (played normally, of course).
Bend and release:
Strike the note and bend up the amount shown (1/2 or whole step) and then release the bend back down to the original note.
