for that Price range I would get a Peavey 6505 there like $1,100 or the 6505+ for like $1,200, which gives you separate EQ for each channel............they sound fukkin great for metal. I own an old 5150 and my guitar player owns the new 6505.....
Bands such as, Chimaira, Job for a cowboy, Inflames, and The Red Cord, tour and record with these amps.

At this price, I would say thats the best amp for you.
if you have more than twice that budget then ....
check out the Bogner Ubershall !
or an Orange Thunderverb 50 or 200 !

Amazing stuff

where did you find a 500 watt amp?!?

The 6505+ is a great choice... but it will be loud for any room that is not set up for serious musician work!

OK so the Randall V2 has a tube-based pre-amp and also a solid state pre-amp and power section. It does boast a whopping 400W (at 4 Ohms). As a result, you'll see solid tone and a lot of clean head-room! The sounds you'll get out of this will highly depend on your cabinet... the resistance rating and wattage capacity. I have a HUGE peavey cabinet and it's rated to 325W. That being said, it's very rare (and very not good for your amp) to push it to 10.
