Post I am a noob and I need help
I have been playing guitar for a whole three weeks, (long time right?) I have a nice classical acoustic guitar. I am aware of my fingers getting used to the guitar but I am having a problem with hammering on and pulling off. I have watched a lot of the videos on youtube, but none of them seem to help me. I am not fully understanding how to do them, and when I think I know how to do it, I get about a quarter of the sound that I should be getting. So any advice here would be appreciated as well as maybe links to vids that could help. Thank you for all who help

YouTube "hammer-on lesson." You'll get decent results.

ok to hammer on you pick first note(lower) then sound the higher note with another finger by fretting it without picking and to do a pull off you would hit the higher note by picking it and then pull off)downwards gives best results) to lower note with out picking

My advice for you is to be patient. You have only been playing for three weeks. It will take awhile for you to develop the strength and coordination to execute these techniques efficiently.

Work on drills and be wary of any pain or tension. You will get there eventually. Consistent practice is the way.

Good luck..

Well, there's not much to understand. When you hammer you hit the string with one of the left hand's fingers so it produces sound and when you pull-off you pull slightly the string downwards and release it. But your fingers need time to build up the strength needed for legato. Another thing - Hammer on-s and Pull off-s work different on different types of guitars - when playin' on an electric guitar with a solid amount of distortion you can do hammers and pulls very easy with a little effort. Things are different with acoustics - hammers on-s, pull off-s, bends and even vibrato are a difficult thing to do. And they don't sound as powerful and clear like on electric. So don't get frustrated - you'll get better soon!
