You already accepted defeat? No fight whatsoever? I was expecting a fight. You know, with blood, and possibly chunks of flesh all over the place from the machete assault. Man, what a let down.

 Re: More amp help needed..
Munkyman wrote:So I've come to believe that the real problem is that I don't really know how to configure my amp to make it sound the way I want it to sound. (For instance, I'm not sure what Middle and Treble really do, and what combinations of the two might do.) So if anyone knows my amp (has used one/used a similar) or can explain some of the basics, 'cause I believe bass, middle, treble and gain are standard for amps. If anyone feels they need more info on the amp to help, just ask ;p
I call this "venturing into amplifier hell". See there is no way my amplifier is going to sound like maybe 30 other models with any of 20 effects used from time to time. Trying to exactly match another player's sounds is an elusive game. I can not match those sounds exactly. I don't even try anymore.
Then once I get set up in a bar the people come in, the place fills up, all those bodies absorb my high frequencies and I have to change tone settings anyway.
Does anyone have any good experience with those Line 6 pods? Pods are amplifier emulation devices. Plug a guitar into a pod then from the pod to the amp. The pod emulates about 30 different well known amplifiers. So you might sound like you have a Marshall stack while playing your Fender Champion. Some guys might just go from the pod to the PA system, they don't use an amp at all.
Trouble is, I recall lots of guys writing that they need to tweak their pods to get good sounds, so amplifier emulation is not an easy quick and straightforward solution.

You're absolultely right that it's pretty much impossible to match another guitarists tone, however I do give credit to those who try their best to come close. I think it's more of an achievement then just giving the old "we wanted to put our own spin on it" argument. Can you say cop out? I can. Cop out!

 i have a question too...
hi,
I play a peavey xxx on a H&K matrix cab (sc 412).
Nomather how i put my settings, my sound is VERY "cracky" (don't really know how to say it, in dutch it's 'krakerig' )
Anyway, i really hate it right now, so what do you guys think of it?
I'm certainly gonna buy something new, but i don't know a head or a cab, or maybe both?
Let me know, cause next monday i'm gonna drive to the musicstore in germany to test some things out, and maybe by it at once, because we have to play some gigs soon...
thanks!

have you tried other guitars and gotten the same sound ?
does adjusting the gain , volume and EQ have any effect on that sound ?

i own 3 guitars, and use 2 of them, one with EMG's, and the other with SM DUNCANS...
I've also used guitars of friends... no difference...
gain, volume, EQ,... nothing
I've tried my head on my fellow guitarist 's cab, a crate, that was a bit better, bet certainly not what i'm looking for...
Im starting to think that i should buy a whole new halfstack, but what?
I don't have too much money
I can always sell my peavey, but that's after i bought a newone, because of the gigs....

when is the last time you had your XXX serviced ?
tube amps NEED maintence .... maybe your power tubes are tired and weak.
tubes WILL wear out ..... its not if , its a matter of when.

That's true, its a while ago...
i should get it checked again.
I'm gonna test the XXX in musicstore on different cabs, than i know whether the head or the cab is the problem ( or my taste ofcourse )
thx for the response!
