You might be able to take group lessons (which are usually cheaper), although they don't allow you the same one-on-one
instruction as a private lesson would.

Hey checkmate. I used to take lessons and I paid 15 bucks a pop for half hour lessons.

I think the main thing that you should ask yourself is... How good is the teacher. If you can find a great teacher with a great method, then paying for lessons will be the best thing you have ever done.

However, this is not as easy as it sounds. A guy sitting in a guitar shop who just wants to teach you how to play stairway to heaven is NOT a good teacher.

My advice: Shop around and find a teacher who is worth the money.
