@Todd:

I don't think I need to drop them because the guitar has great sustain. With the risk of sounding like Nigel Tufnel; I can hold it and it sounds forever! Very Happy

@Chuck:

Thanks for the tip, you really are the expert on this! I actually have V7 and V8s on my third guitar too (the one with the trem problem that soon will be solved - hopefully), so I can try it on that guitar first. Very Happy

if you are shooting for that EMG 81 sound , then nothing else is really going to give you that tone.

but ....if you want something different , and passive perhaps a Duncan Invader , or Dimarzio X2N , a Gibson Dirty Fingers , or Iommi pickup... these and the others already mentioned are all good, hot passives.

now , if you want THE most brutal tone and output ....try the Duncan Metal LiveWire.
i am not kidding ...the harmonics just jump out of these things...they scream !

keep us posted on what you get Very Happy

i wanted to get an emg, but it turned out my ibanez would be changing loads with the controls and shit to use an emg, so i've been thinking about a duncan invader.
would anyone advise this?
cheers

Yeah, the Invader is a fun pickup to have.

My favorite all-around pickup is the ToneZone, but what's better yet, is it's more of a medium-output pickup.
I did play on an X2N one time though, and that thing was meeeaaan. I think it's DiMarzio's highest output pickup.

None of these "opinions" are representative of Great Southern Music.
They are my personal opinions.
