ok , that changes everything .....forget what i said earlier.
you MIGHT find one F/X unit with everything you want in it , but you probably will need several pieces.
the hours of research , and trial and error is what makes rack building both a royal pain in the rear , and extremly rewarding (when you get it right)

Oh yes, I hope they have a "Rack building for dummies" at school lol. Thx for the answers Chuck. I need to kidnap you and keep you in my basement and build me a rack lol. Harmony Central is a musicians no. 1 friend I have come to believe lol. , But i don't need any kind of powering unit to use several rack peices right? or do I? If I just get FX pieces I can just power them up together?

I'm also in the market for some rack pieces to complete my rig, although not amps as I'm more than happy with my JSX! I've pretty much decided on the new Digitech GSP1101, and a RJM Music RG-16 to control everything (from my Rocktron All Access). I've got the 8U rack, the wireless systems (AKG WMS400), the tuner (Korg DTR1000), my IEM system (Shure PSM) and the 2U pedal drawer (I plan to rackmount my Boss DS-1, BD-2 and AC-2 pedals, along with my Digitech Whammy 4, and use the RG-16 to remotely switch the pedals). I'll then only have to run audio to and from my Bad Horsie wah pedal at stage front. I'm undecided about power supplies though (I'll have 1U of rackspace left) - the Furman models that most people seem to use don't seem to be available in the UK. Has anyone tried the Samson PowerBrites?

spacehog, I've just got an Art pb4x4 (?) power conditioner (1u space) and although I've got coiled power cabes and dc adaptors in the 4u rack box, there is absolutly no hum, would recommend them.. and it was only about £40 too studiospares.com I think
on edit: the only hastle is that its iec outs, but I found that www.deltacom.co.uk do some inline adaptors quite cheap (approx £5 each), or just chop and change the plugs

Thanks guys, definitely seems like a good call, I've been impressed with the ART stuff I've used in the past. Don't really like buying from Studiospares though (bit of a history with them) so I'll shop around... I'm used to making up my own IEC leads, so that's no problem.

Well, I've ordered the ART, so here's hoping it's a good 'un Now all I need to do is save up a bit for the two remaining components (the RG-16, which I've pretty much got the money together for) and the Digitech. Oh, and then buy another 4x12 and another head (either a JSX or a XXX for tonal variety) so I can run the whole thing in stereo - the way I'll be running it, I'll be able to select between any of the three channels from either head, or a preamp from the Digitech, and route it through the FX processor bit of the Digitech, out to both head power stages and to the cabinets. Pretty complex, but should sound really sweet and give me loads of variety

yea....that does seem like it will sound great.
when you have two different sounding amps played together in stereo you can get KILLER heavy tone.
my Marshall 9100 power amp has an A/B voicing feature for each side of the amp .
i really should have 2 preamps , then it will be 2 totally seperate amps in stereo .
i will have to look into doing that.

I hadn't thought about wiring it up that way, to use two preamps in parallel... interesting idea! My plan was to be able to switch between the different preamps and have the channels set differently (so 6 different "tube" preamp sounds, and however many modelled sounds - apparently the Soldano and Carvin Legacy models are particularly excellent on the Digitech, and I want the Twin Reverb sound for those Steve Howe moments ), but only use one at once, with the stereo width being provided by the FX. The power stages are just about identical in the JSX and the XXX anyway (my choice of amp is limited to those purely because of wanting to use the remote amp switching on the RG-16, which switches both amps simultaneously), although I could tweak the resonance and presence controls to give slightly different tones from the two. All very exciting (and potentially very complicated)! It'll be a while before I could afford the 2nd half-stack though.

i hear you about the money it takes for fancy racks !
an awesome sounding tube head ,and a 4x12 is so simple .....no wonder that has been my main setup for a long time ....
..UNTILL i fired up my old rack a few weeks ago ,and got a fresh case of rack fever... since then i bought the marshall power amp , and am talking ANOTHER preamp
geeeez .....i think i am going to just crank up my old Peavey VTM60 this evening
guitar , amp , Dr.Z AirBrake , 4x12 .....thats about as simple as it gets
