Yeah, I might do that. I have quite a few pedals, but I bought them all when I was in high school, and now I'm not quite happy with any of them. (shameful secret...my first pedal ever was a DOD grunge.) Distortionwise, I have a Boss Metal Zone, Digitech Hot Rod and Danelectro Fab Tone. I'll check into those ones that you recommended.

Eric has a grunge pedal he picked up dirt cheap , and it sounds great in front of my Valve Jr.
they are not bad pedals.

Lol, sorry, I mean no offense! Quality is all in the ear of the listener, it's all personal preference. I must say, grunge pedals do look pretty sweet.

hehehe. i do believe you have hit the nail on the head. i was just teasing you. that ideal is something we all hold to on this forum so it's good that you get it and we don't have to bring out our legions of guitar bats to bring you to understanding.

Nothing wrong with that FabTone. Great sounding distortion. Then again, I personally think the Grunge pedal sounds like Le Poop.
Anyway, I hate thinking that you bought an amp that isn't turning out how you expected and now you are trying to fix the problem by spending more money on stuff that may or may not solve the problem. Can you return the amp? Maybe look around some more to find one that will suit your needs better?
For me, personally, when I make a purchase of that nature, I don't care what set up or policy a music store has, if I can't test it fully (footswitches and all), I won't buy it. It takes a little patience, sure, but I think I'd rather spend a hour messing around with an amp in a music shop than spend months at home with a purchase that I really wasn't happy with.
My $0.02. The popping between clean and gain doesn't really seem like as big deal, but I don't like the fact that your effects loop is noisy. That's a strong indication of poor quality. You may want to try to run through your loop with all effects off except maybe a flat-lined Graphic EQ if you need to have an effect on to activate the loop. See how noisy it is with the effects off. Then one by one try out each effect and see if maybe it is a specific effect that is noisy. If so, you can use the amp and the other effects, while staying away from the noisier ones (you can replace with pedals or whatever if you want).
Hope that helps.
