Post Yngwie
Hello all, I just joined this site yesterday and loving the forums, some real nice insite here, and ive already learned a few things.

My one question is it seems like yngwie's name is mentioned a trillion times on this site. I feel like he is one of the most overrated guitarists ever. Aside from being a jerkoff which doesnt bother me at all cause its all about the playing I feel this guy has no soul at all, every other song of his sounds the same. Ofcourse Im in awe when I see a clip of his cause he shreds like a champ but I feel thats all he can do and I always seem to get bored with him after a song or two.

Dont mean to bash as my first post, just curious what you guys see in him. Maybe im missing something, or maybe I just dont understand, anyone else feel this way, or is yngwie the king of these forums?

He is very very very good in what he plays and how he arranges his pieces. I just wish he was more versitile.

ol Yngwie is simply an incredible talent.

i personally think he has an amazing amount of soul and feeling in his playing.

a lot of it has to do with how much you like the style of music he plays.

honestly , i think any style that a person dosent care for tends to "sound all the same" ...you know what i mean ?

its all what you like.

also , its the time period you grew up in .... Malmsteen exploded on the scene when i was in high school , and he was THE hot guitar player of that time.
his sound was fresh and new ....much like Eddie Van Halen was several years before.

just like guys about 10 or 15 years older than me that are into Jeff Beck who was THE hot player in his day....i know he is an awesome player , but he just dosent do it for me .

there you go ....my take on the Malmsteen subject Very Happy

I think he has lots of soul and fire in his playing. It really comes out on his live recordings. I have a bootleg of "I Am a Viking" and it's really amazing. Not just for his technical prowess, but for the emotion that comes out of it. I am a huge fan of playing from the heart. It's what I do and I can instantly tell when someone is NOT playing with soul or emotion.

On the other hand, I have heard Yngwie's attempt at playing the blues and I did not feel it at all. For that soul and fire in electric blues, I like players such as Hendrix and SRV.

Being from Sweden, I shouldn't be saying anything bad about a country man like Yngwie (seeing the words "country" and "Yngwie" so close to each other looks a bit strange, doesn't it?), but even if I think he's a very talented and skilled player, I quickly get bored with him. I know today's music probably wouldn't sound the same without him, but honestly, a lot of the Neo-classical stuff I could easily do without, thank you very much.

I'm not blaming him personally, but he's part of the movement that changed guitar soloing from being an artform into somekind of competition with a perverted version of the motto of the olympic games, "faster, higher, stronger".

I'm not as conservative as it sounds, on the contrary I love some really fast solos, I just think they need to be used in the right place, and not all the time and without any other reason than that you can.

I can understand that.

All the guitarists that he spawned, more or less, I don't care for. He's the only one out of that style that I dig.

there is at least one "other" neo classical fusion guy that has aged like fine wine.....
Vinnie Moore.

that guy can shred ( and even sherd ) like nobody's business , AND he has amazing feel, tone, emotion, and taste in what he plays.

Vinnie is member of UFO these days...and is still cranking out fantastic stuff.

do we have any other Vinnie Moore fans on here ?

hello ....anybody ? ? ?

Maybe its the constant shredding im not into. I guess its just not my style of music. Dont get me wrong, I wish I can do a percentage of what he does but I def dont see him anywhere as a g-d as some people on this site see him as. My favorite is Gilmour which is as opposite of Yngwie as they come, and alot of people disagree with my pick, so I guess it comes down to the style you like.

Someone here made a good point, "I love some really fast solos, I just think they need to be used in the right place, and not all the time and without any other reason than that you can." maybe then he would be easier for me to listen to. On a side note, my favorite song of his is his acoustic guitar solo (i believe from the g3 live in denver show) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpDblDia5TE

I don't think Yngwie is over rated but just boring I rather think Vinnie Moore has a ton more feeling. I seen him in I think 94 on his Birthday and he just ripped it up with a lot of soul, feeling. his leads have both speed and slowness which gives it the contrast needed. Its kind of weird to think that he is now playing in UFO...lol

he is a good player, i still think that Batio and Rusty Cooley are better, but he is a prick, has a very high ego problem. Alout of his stuff to me sounds the same, i would like it if he changes scales or something maybe. One thing im not to fond of is he uses a fender and rythm pickup alout.

he still is a better player than me though....Sad

Hugh Yngwie fan here. I would say he is an awesome shredder, love his scalloped guitars. The attitude problem doesn't really bother me; maybe if I was in the band it would... Rolling Eyes
