Hey everyone, I'm new here and I just had a question about guitar care.
Right now I'm living in a fraternity house but I've noticed that during the winter the air in my room gets very dry. I bought a humidifier and try to keep the room between 30 and 40 percent humidity, but I'm concerned about whether this will damage my guitars which I usually store on stands and not in their cases. One is an electric Ibanez while the other is an acoustic samick (probably made of plywood although I'm not sure). Can anyone tell me if I run the risk of damaging my guitar at those current humidity levels?
That should be your biggest concern... not the humidity.
Your stuff is going to be touched, played, broken by drunk frat people, guests, random chicks... it's a recipe for disaster. Get lockable cases, keep your stuff locked and in the closet or under your bed.

i think you could add the above statement to the list of life's sure things....
DEATH , TAXES , and the fact that people WILL mess with your stuff if they can !
Jack is 100% right about that being a bigger danger than humidity ....and since you will have the guitars licked in their cases , why not put one of those little "clay jar" humidifiers in with the guitar ?
they work , and they are just a few bucks ....whats not to like ?

EXACTLY!!! That's the protocol I USE when in a musical environment without MY guitar. I ALWAYS ask to before touching someone else's gear. I would only expect that of others. I had to restrain a friend who wanted to kill some drunken idiot who got up on stage, grabbed my guitar (without asking...) and started banging it around (on mic stands and such) while he staggered around trying to play. I had to go up on stage and literally threaten to beat the f*#@%r if he didn't take my guitar off this very instant!!!
I guess my buddy must've threatened him pretty seriously b/c he & his party left immediately after getting off the stage.

Chuck is the only person I know that is allowed to touch any of my guitars without asking first. Hell he can even take them apart without asking. What can I say, I'd take a bullet for the guy!
