is it a set number of years ?

I always thought 25 years made something antique, then again that may just be cars. Or it was everything except cars. I got nothin.

i dont know if the aged wood makes any difference on an electric , but the quality of that old wood matters.
they say the wood quality isnt what it used to be.
i dont know if this is true ...but it sounds good Wink

Wood quality actually has gone down. Back in the day the trees they cut down had been growing for up to a few hundred years. Nowadays they farm wood and make it grow faster. When trees grow naturally the rings are closer together, giving it more strenght. When it is farmed it is pushed to grow faster, making the rings further apart and making it weaker to some extent.

Well, wait. I just noticed the word antique. I think an antique is something 50 years or older. 25 years makes something vintage. We all know what was meant though.

the whole "vintage" craze gets a bit silly sometimes.

it seems EVERY piece of older gear i see nowadays is "vintage" , and carries the hefty price tag along with it Rolling Eyes

that is what i was talking about really ....

Yeah. As though nothing new could possibly compare to old stuff. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of new junk, but there was plenty of old junk as well. It really is silly.

indeed ! ....just being old doesnt make it better , it just makes it old.

i understand all the old growth / new growth wood talk....
( ok ,time out ...hey John / GFM..NO jokes about that !!! )....but does it REALLY make that much difference in tone ?

a great sounding new guitar is still a great sounding guitar !

the whole thing gives me a headache Very Happy

I would rather say that vintage is better from an investment perspective only.
