i bought a cool DVD the other day ...

Yngwie Johann Malmsteen: Concerto Suite for Guitar and Orchestra in E Flat Minor .

WOW .....i keep forgeting how good that guy is.

has anybody else watched this show ?

I've got the CD, which I love, but not had chance to check the DVD out yet (don't even know if it's available over here...) Yngwie's certainly an interesting one...

yea...he sure is.
he MIGHT be an arrogant jerk at times ...but the man is an incredible guitar player and musician .

i remember him in Mike Varneys spotlight back in the early 80's , and have been a fan ever since.

yeah, i have to agree that aside from him being a jerk at times, the guy is a brilliant arranger and composer. i enjoy his music when i can

have you ever caught one of his live shows ?

i saw him open for AC/DC in Wash.D.C back in 1988(i think it was 8 , and we got to stand right at the stage and watch the master play.
that was a cool thing indeed.

and AC/DC was the only band i have ever had to wear me out....they kept playing encore after encore....SHEESH ...they were great , but i was beat,and wanted to go home

it was a very cool night to say the least

i also saw ol Yngwie open for Iron Maiden in 1987(somewhere in time tour) at the Capital Center...THAT was a show to remember also !

i think i saw him one other time...but i cant remember when that was at the moment.

dang man, those are some memorable shows

I saw Yngwie when he was on G3 (2003 I believe, in Detroit). I must be the only person who thinks this, but he was sort of... dull. It was my only Malmsteen experience, but through all of his songs, he almost solely played off the neck pickup, and it was really muddy. I don't recall him ever playing a chord either. I admire someone's love for solo's but I also thought it was a tad overkill.

Not to mention that someone should tell him to stop wearing leather pants... man camel toe is almost worse than their female counterparts...

I don't know. I'll just never understand the attraction to this guy I guess.

in theory all of the G3 shows shoud be incredible....but what i have heard has been rather lame.
i guess my expectations were so high , that i set myself up for a letdown. (thats the opposite of setting myself down for a letup ? )

the thing about Malmsteen is that you have to dig his music .... if you dont , then all you can do is admire his chops....and just cold chops gets old VERY quickly.
do you like any of the other neo classical fusion guys ? ....maybe the genre just dosent do it for you ?

as for the leather pants ....while i dont look at man camel toe(not my kinda thing) , i DO find female camel toe/moose knuckle to be a wonderful thing
ol Yngwie has his style and look , and if he is happy with it ...then so am i

since watching the DVD i am on a little Malmsteen kick , and grabbed "War to End All Wars" on the way out the door this morning ......wow , i dont know why i dont listen to this more....the man is truely a guitar master !

i just remembered the other Malmsteen show i saw.
it was opening for Triumph at the George Mason University Patriot Center in either 87,88 or 89.
Yngwie was (as usual) amazing , the band was kick butt just like the other times i saw them.
i wouldnt mind catching another Malmsteen show sometime soon.
Triumph was a huge letdown.
they just went thru the motions....NO passion, NO energy ....they were dull and lifeless.
its the only show where i actually got up and walked out.
that was really a shame , i was so excited to finally get to see Rik Emmit play live, then to have them stink.

I hate that! I remember being at Warped Tour this past summer, and there were actually a few bands I was dying to see. The only two that delivered were Bad Religion and Tiger Army. I walked away from so many sets disappointed, I couldn't believe it. It's insulting almost.
