Who has Influenced you as a musician?

in some way or another every musician i have ever heard.
some good...some bad.

My dad. My dad has done more for me musically and in helping me advance as a musician, than anyone else. He bought me my first records, taught me about different styles of music, and most of all, regardless of what he liked or thought was right, never pushed me into any particular genre or style of play. In fact he never pushed me into playing at all, but when I finally got interested, he showed me anything I wanted to know.

agreed, i wish my dad had been that involved in my musical development

my Dad taught me like that....just about stuff other than music.

thanks to him i can fix my car,house,boat,plumbing,electric, i can plant a garden,survive off the land,defend my family and property ....just about anything.

he did it all beacuse he had to .... i can do those things because he taught me.

what more can a parent do for their child ?

i am so very lucky to have a Dad like that .....not just lucky , BLESSED.

Yeah as sappy it is, I will always be the first to admit what my dad, both my parents really, have done for me. Sometimes you get crap for not technically being self-taught but, if you ask me, to be 100% truly self-taught is impossible. Everyone was show something or helped in some way when it comes to music. In this day and age, people who aren't reallyinterested in playing music have some limited knowledge of instruments or music or recording in some sense. It's everywhere you look. But yes, I am very lucky, and I know it.

Other than my dad, I'd say the other cliche motivator/inspiration was people who would laugh off the idea of me ever playing music. I was a hockey geek my whole life, and when I decided that it just wasn't as fun as guitar anymore, no one took me seriously. I really can say I feed off of others' criticism. I love it, in fact, and there's no better feeling than proving them wrong. I'm sure everyone's experience that.

My grandfather mostly, but also Jimi Hendrix, John McLaughlin, David Gilmour, and Steven Wilson.

They taught me that timing is more flexible than it would seem. Also that noise can be as musical as melody. Also that performance is one of the best ways to enhance music.

as of late, i've been hearing a lot of acoustic music and being really inspired by it

most of my influence actually comes from trying to mimic vocals lines on my guitar instead of the guitar part. as far as guitarists are concerned im not sure i ever met or heard one i didnt like. lol
