Hey I happened to wander into a local music store this weekend and they had a 3W - 5W Blackheart mini stack. I tried it out, and to tell you the truth, I wasn't that impressed. It sounded very muddy to me, even tweaking the tone knobs. You'd have to use a few pedals to get it sounding decent, in my opinion.

i was really hoping they were going to be nice little amps.

guess i will stick with my Valve Jr.

or just build my perfect little amp ....just the way i want it to be .

It's a useful opinion to take with me when I get to try one out (which may be today). I've heard good and bad so far, which really just makes me more interested in rying them for myself.

i wonder if it was the amp or the cabinet that was muddy ?

another thing to keep in mind is that the stock preamp and power tube are probably crap.

a couple of groove tubes made a world of difference in my Valve Jr.

Didn't even think about that. That's why you are the expert on amps, and not me. But still...isn't that the manufacturer shooting themselves in the foot if that is the case?

yea...it WOULD be dumb to have either a muddy cabinet OR amp.

i bet it has el cheapo tubes .....
check out the grrove tube site, they have a tone decsription for each tube ...it helps give you an idea of what will work in your amp.

i have a pile of different 12AX7 preamp tubes , and 3 or 4 different EL84's for my Valve Jr.

the right pre amp tube and power tube will make a heck of a difference.
