no name guitar, worth pickup money?
I just bought a no name v shaped guitar, I mean it's not made of plastic or anything so adding new pickups to it would make it a sweet guitar, right?
so the real question is:
Does anyone have experience with this, or know if it is even worth it to spend money on pickups for this guitar?

if there is one thing i have learned from my tutors at college
you can make a shit guitar, which feels good, sound great, with the right pickups
look at good emgs or bare knuckles

as long as the guitar feels good to you and is easy to play , why not put in a good set of pickups ?
i think its cool to have a great playing and sounding guitar for a bargin price.
what sound are you shooting for with this V ?
how much money are you looking to spend on pickups ?

a good guitar is defined by the playability of the neck, then the sustain then over all tone. so if the neck is like butter and it has decent sustain then you have a winner.
i have never played with bareknuckels but i have been hearing good things about them
my personal weapon of choice is the emg 81, in pairs
emg 85s are great and have a slightly beefier tone then the 81(super lead pickup)
seymore duncan makes a few good screamers
dimarzio pickups have never really turned me on, especially when it comes to artificial harmonics.
go to your music store and play all the guitars with these kind of pickups before you buy, all of us here may have completely different views on what good guitar tone is. but as far as quality all the makers above build good stuff that will never fail.

hey, thanks for all the replies, dudes. i'd like a pretty crunchy heavy sound, but still with decent cleans. if i'm confident the guitar will sound nice, i'll just buy the pickups i need, they couldn't be too expensive. yeah, i was looking at emg 81's at first, but then someone pointed me towards that bare knuckle company, they're reasonably priced, and seem to be quality pickups.

i just went to the bare knuckle site....the pickups seem to be awesome , but the price sure dosent seem resonable. i could buy Qtuners for less money !
do you know of a les expensive place to buy the Bare Knuckles ?
i was expecting something like $100-$150 each ....maybe its the exchange rate ?

I thought ninety a piece for those painkiller pickups was reasonable, considering they're all hand made. I don't know where emg's are made, or really any other pickup companies, i'm sure they're mostly made in japan, china, korea one of those places. qtuners, i've never heard of, i'll have to check them out. Chuck you'll have to give me a day or two to send you that pdf file.
