Post reading tabs
Hello again, can anyone please help me with reading tabs as I am stuck on this tutorial >
I don't understand how I should play the chords, it has a diagram of the G chord above the tab and on the actually tab it says hold fret 3 on string 6 and then play strings 2, 3, and 4 open but the G chord is hold fret 3 on string 6 and 1 and fret 2 on string 5 and play the other 2 open, plus are the notes measuring the singing or the tabs?

Also how am I ment to play the end tab on this diagram, it says hold down fret 1 on string 2 and fret 3 on string 5 and play string 1 and 3 open. How am I supposed to play string 1,2,3, and 5 together with out hitting string 4 on the way down

I think you many be over analyzing this a little too much. Try this. At the end of the 2nd image you posted; keep your ring finger on fret 3 of the E string *note to G "3"* string, and using your index finger, fret the E. 1*esharp* and 1*dsharp*. Then moving your 3rd fret G down to a Bsharp on the a string as noted *fret 3 on A string*. I don't really know how else to explain this other than maybe your not using proper fingering techniques. Good luck.

Thanks for your help, but I am still stuck on these types of tabs. Should I be playing with my fingers or a plectrum? as trying to miss out a string (1 - 0, 2 - 0, 3 - X, 4 - 0, 5 - 0, 6 - 0..etc) in one movement with a plectrum would be nearly impossible

Another example is the begining of nirvana's - Where did you sleep last night, it says play string (2 - 0, 3 - X, 4 - 2, 5 -2, 6 - 0) how can it be possible to miss string 3 out and play strings 6 to 2 all in one stroke with a plectrum. Should I play with fingers and play strings 5 and 6 with thumb, 4 with index finger and 2 with middle finger.

I haven't looked at the sheet music, but it sounds like you are describing a technique known as string muting. With string muting you can rest one of your fingers (typically one that is fretting a note on an adjacent string) lightly against the string so that does not sound (instead it gives off a short "plunk" sound, but over ringing notes, you won't hear it).
