THE DURATION OF THE NOTES AND RESTS PROVIDES THE RHYTHM WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTAND ELEMENT IN MUSIC . THATS WHAT IT SAY .ALSO I DONT KNOW WHAT IS THIS LINES ABOVE AND BELOW THE NOTES. By value, they mean TIME or COUNTING. If the music is in 4/4, that means you count one for every quarter note, and four quarter notes equals one bar...so you tap with your foot and count "1...2...3...4" Each note VALUE is like this:

Whole Note = 1 bar (or 1....2....3....4)
Half Note = 1/2 bar (or 1....2....)
Quarter Note = 1/4 bar (or 1....)
Eighth Note = 1/8 bar, etc., etc.

same for rests: Whole Rest, Half Rest, Quarter Rest, etc., etc.

and Yes, RESTS are the most important element in music. Without rests, there is no rhythm.

I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about...you mean those little tails on the notes? Like this?


Music is written that way so it is easier on your eyes. The tail/stem points up on the higher notes and down on the lower notes. They make no difference though. Like you see in the picture, these two notes are in the middle of the staff, so they can have an up tail or down tail...it doesn't mean anything.

thanks again you totaly understand me ! i also have a basic question , in book says : the notes written on the lines : E , G , B , D , F . the notes written in the spaces : F , A , C , E . the notes written with ledger lines below the stave : E , F , G , A , B , C , D .
i have 2 answers : 1) is this wright to have the same note on the lines and spaces ?
2) also C note is written on spaces but in the ledger lines below the stave is written on lines . can you explain me please ?

THe Staves are from tradional piano music.
"Bass clef" is for the left hand, "Treble clef" is for the right hand.
Middle C" is BETWEEN the two clefs on a "Ledger line".

Ledger lines can appear above OR below a given clef.

I am not sure how to answer your first question. I would need to see exactly what you are talking about to make sure I get it right for you.

Yes. this means it is the same note, just at a different (lower) octave. --> C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C

I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT METRES . IN BOOK SAID THAT : EACH BAR COMPRISES THE SAME NUMBER OF BEATS AS INDICATED BY THE TIME-SIGNATURE AT THE START OF THE PIECE E.G 4/4 OR C , 3/4 , 2/4 ETC. IN PIECES WHICH CONTAIN A CHANGE/CHANGES OF METER , THE TIME-SIGNATURE MAY APPEAR NOT ONLY AT THE 2/4 , 3/4 , 6/8 ETC. BEGINNING OF THE PIECE BUT ALSO AT THE START OF THE BAR WHERE THE METER CHANGE OCCURS .
I DONT UNDERSTAND COMPLITELY . PLEASE HELP !

Man that is one thing I never bothered to get into. I am so so used to tabulature and they make so much more sense to guitarists. *At least to me* I never bothered. But I'm impressed with the knowledge you guys have about reading music. I may have a question for you guys on down the line. Awesome help here!
