ahh, this is something that is very tricky
i just have to tell you, that it's not very possible. you can get a distorted tone out of it, but it's not going to sound the best and there isn't much you can do about that. the main thing is that electric guitars have magnetic pickups and most acoustic use piezos. the magnets are what create that amazing electric sound. your best bet would be buying an electric and going from there
If your acoustic/electric is in fact an acoustic with built-in pickup and whatnot, then don't even bother with it, it sounds like crap.
I'm very confused as to what constitutes an acoustic/electric anymore as it is. My friend has an ovation turtleback and calls it an acoustic/electric... my dad has an old Vox acoustic/electric, and that's what I always thought they were. Slightly thicker bodies than an electric, but almost completely hollow, and one little pickup at the neck... If you have something like what I just described as the VOx, then don't try it either. Raise the action up on that shit and play slide
the Ovations are true acoustic electrics , they have a pickup under the bridge saddle that is made with piezo crystals that sense the string pressure and top vibration.
...the Vox sounds like a semi-hollow body electric.
semi's have a solid block in the center of the body to add sustain and cut down feedback.
the thick hollow body arch top electrics are usually called jazz boxes , both the semi's and the jazz's have magnetic pickups like a normal electric.
some have the pickups mounted to the top , and others have a floating neck pickup.
